As many of you have seen, I cover my hair. When I go out for a quick run to the grocery store, I’ll throw on a beanie really fast and run out the door! My go-to hats are these super slouchy ones. Today’s video is on how to make one of these great projects.
When I’m out and about wearing this hat, I get so many compliments and people ask me where I got it. I love to tell them I made it myself, and you will too!
Whenever I have made my version of this hat, I always use yarn that has very vibrant colors and different variations of jewel tones. This example in today’s blog uses Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable yarn in the Stained Glass color.
This super slouchy multicolored beanie can be worked up in an afternoon! I promise, you will get years of wear out of each hat you make! They make great gifts, not just to yourself, haha, but to others!
At the very end of the video tutorial, I explain how to make it smaller for child sizes. The written pattern is for a teen/adult sized hat.
You could add your own embellishments by adding buttons, a bow, or any other fashionable item to make it your own!

–Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable Yarn In Stained Glass (or any color you’d like!)
–Size K-6.50mm crochet hook
–Yarn Needle
–Scissors
NOTES:
-You will be working in continuous rounds, no slip stitching or chaining up after each round.
-Some crocheters have mentioned that this hat turned out a little smaller for them. Maybe going up a hook size or decrease to Round 23 or 24 and then jump to the instructions for Rounds 26-29.
Ch: chain
St: Stitch
Sl st: slip stitch
HDC: half double crochet
BLO: Back Loop Only
HDC2TOG: Half Double Crochet Decrease: Yarn over, go into the next st, yarn over, pull through, go directly into the next stitch, yarn over, pull through (You should have 4 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops. HDC Decrease made.
Ch 2
Rnd 1: HDC 6 in 2nd ch from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: HDC 2 in each st. (12)
Rnd 3: (HDC 2 in next st, HDC in next st) 6 times. (18)
Rnd 4: (HDC 2 in next st, HDC in next 2 sts) 6 times. (24)
Rnd 5: (HDC 2 in next st, HDC in next 3 sts) 6 times. (30)
Rnd 6: (HDC 2 in next st, HDC in next 4 sts) 6 times. (36)

Okay so I just finished making this hat. And mine came out way smaller than yours. I followed all your steps, but there is no way this will fit me. Maybe in did something wrong, like pulling the yarn to tight. Do you have any suggestions on how I can make it bigger, because truly love the hat, and would like to wear it.
You could try using a larger hook or crocheting looser. It looks like these stitches are very loose.
Help I have the same issue, turned out to small, do we have to use the exact yarn? I loved the pattern it is super easy to follow, thank you so much.
I’ve made this hat several times and I love the pattern. My question is, in the video I catch glances of the measurement in the pic but could you tell me how big it measures when done? I followed the pattern using a 6.5 hook and I find that it’s too small for my own head so IDk if it would fit others. Thank you
I just finished making the hat. As everyone else said….it is WAY too small for an adult head. I loved the tutorial and everything else. Just disappointed that it is so small. I will try with a bigger hook or try to crochet loosely. Thank you. I love the work that you do.

Nadia, I did something different with your pattern…Instead of 6 hdc in first ch frm hook….I did 8 chs and foolowed the rest of your pattern….of course, my numbers were different but it’s for someone with very long Dreds/Locs. Photo to come. I also made one in your original pattern exactly.

The problem with sizing this pattern is no gauge is listed. If your piece turns out small use a bigger hook and looser stitches. Gauge is when the author of the pattern says that a sample of the stitch, say 10 rows of 10 stitches of hdc = 4 inches x4 inches or something like that. Then you can work a sample using the hook and yarn and see if yours is the same and adjust accordingly. Not everyone uses the same tension when they crochet.
Love this pattern so glad I found it! I definitely need to use different yarn the opening isnt quite big enough and i have a small head! I can get it on but it is a bit tight. Id also like more slouch to it, mind did not come out as slouchy as your photos show. I found your pattern and video so easy to follow and now that i have completed one in less than a day im confident to keep trying. Thanks so much for providing it for no fee.
