Crochet Tutorial: 1-UP & Power Up Mushroom Hat from Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. 1-UP and Power Up Mushroom Hats for the gamer in your life! If you love someone who enjoys gaming, or you are a fan, this is the perfect project for you! Be sure to wow everyone with this easy crochet hat that is sure to be a hit! This can be made in other colors, and although this was designed to relate to the video game, you can use your creative energy to transform these hats into whatever you’d like!

Materials:
-Red Heart Yarns in Red, White, Green, Buff, Black(or colors of your choice) I used about 180 yards of Red, Less than 100 yards of Buff, and scraps of white and Black.
-Size H-5.00mm Crochet Hook
-Yarn Needle
-Scissors

NOTES:
-Hats are worked from the top down.
-Ch 2 at beginning of rounds does not count as stitch.
-This hat will fit an adult size head, but it may also fit a child. If you know basic decreasing, you can do more decreasing to make it smaller. *This hat is only available in the ONE size shown in this blog post.*

Ch: chain
St(s): Stitch(es)
Sl st: slip stitch
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half-Double Crochet
SC2TOG: Single Crochet Decrease

Hat:
With Red:
Ch 3
Rnd 1: 9 HDC in 3rd ch from hook. Sl st to beginning HDC, ch 2 (9)
Rnd 2: 2 HDC in each st around. Sl st to beginning HDC, Ch 2. (18)
Rnd 3: *2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next st, repeat from * around. Sl st to beginning HDC, Ch 2. (27)
Rnd 4: *2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next 2 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to beginning HDC, Ch 2. (36)
Rnd 5: *2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next 3 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to beginning HDC, Ch 2. (45)
Rnd 6: *2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next 4 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to beginning HDC, Ch 2. (54)
Rnd 7: *2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next 5 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to beginning HDC, Ch 2. (63)
Rnd 8: *2 HDC in next st, HDC in next 8 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to beginning HDC, Ch 2. (70)
Rnds 9-18: HDC in each st around, sl st to beginning HDC, ch 2. (70)
At the end of round 18, change color to Buff (or light tan) and ch 1 only.
Rnd 19: SC in each st around, sl st to beginning SC, ch 1. (70 SC)
Rnd 20: SC2TOG, SC in next 33 sts, SC2TOG, SC in the rest of the sts around. Sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (68)
Rnd 21: SC2TOG, SC in next 32 sts, SC2TOG, SC in the rest of the sts around. Sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (66)
Rnds 22-29: SC in each st around, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (66)
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Mushroom Spots: (MAKE 5)
With White: Ch 2
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (6)
Rnd 2: Sc 2 in each st, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (12)
Rnd 3: (Sc 2 in next st, sc in next st) 6 times, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (18)
Rnd 4: (Sc 2 in next st, sc in next 2 sts) 6 times, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (24)
Rnd 5: (Sc 2 in next st, sc in next 3 sts) 6 times, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (30)
Rnd 6: (Sc 2 in next st, sc in next 4 sts) 6 times, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1. (36)
Fasten off with long end.
Sew to hat, using video tutorial as a visual guide.

Eyes: (Make 2)
With black,
Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (5 sc)
Fasten off with long tail.
Sew to hat using video tutorial as a visual guide.
Add a fleck of white in eye using video tutorial for visual instructions.

Finishing. Sew all your pieces to the hat, weave in all ends. Enjoy!
