There’s a new musical animation film coming out in December. One of the characters from the movie inspired this cute earflap hat. I made this cutie patootie Gorilla Hat just in time for Halloween and the holidays! My nephew is a lil’ gorilla and makes the best model!!

–Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Black
–Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Gray
–Red Heart Super Saver yarn in White
–Size K-6.50mm Crochet Hook
–Size H-5.00mm Crochet Hook
–Yarn Needle
–Scissors

–Poly-fil for stuffing

NOTES:
-I do not have smaller sizes for this hat, it is made for a Child size.
-You can easily adjust this size to make it bigger by adding increase rounds and more rows to make it longer. Check out this page for tips on hat sizes.

Hat
With Homespun and Bulky yarn together
Ch 4, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring (or start with Magic Ring)
Rnd 1: Ch up 3 (counts as DC), 8 DC into ring, sl st to ch up 3. (9)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 DC in each sp between sts around. sl st to ch up 3. (18)
Rnd 3: Ch 3, DC in same sp as ch up 3, DC in next sp, * 2 DC in next, DC in next, repeat from * around, sl st to beginning ch up 3. (27)
Rnd 4: Ch up 3, DC in same sp as ch up 3, DC in next sp, * 2 DC in next, DC in next 2 sps, repeat from * around, Sl st to ch up 3. (36)

First earflap:

Assembly step:
Sew pupils to eyeball, stuff eye, and sew to hat.
Nose:
Ch 4
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook and across (3)
Row 2-16: Ch 1, Turn, SC in each st across.
Fasten off with long tail.

Eyebrow:
In black
Ch 2
Rnd 1: 4 SC in 2nd ch from hook (4)
Rnd 2: 2 SC in each st around. (8)
Stuff a little as you go,
Rnds 3-18: SC in each st around. (8)
Rnd 19: SC2Tog 4 times, Fasten off with long tail for sewing.

Ears: Make 2 in Gray
Ch 2
Rnd 1: 6 Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to 1st sc.
Rnd 2: Ch up 3 (counts as DC), DC in same st, 2 HDC in next 2 sts, 2 DC in next, 2 HDC in next 2 sts, sl st to ch up 3. (12)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, 2 SC in first 2 sts, 1 Sc in next 4 sts, 2 SC in next 2 sts, 1 SC in last 4 sts, (16)
Fasten off with long tail for sewing.
Assembly step:
Cut a bunch of scrap yarn, tie to top of hat for hair, comb it out for fuzzy hair
Make braids on each earflap.
Weave in all ends.

What size is the gorilla hat intended?
It’s a child size but if you make a few adjustments, you can make it bigger. I give instructions for sizing in the Notes section and in the video tutorial. Enjoy! ~Nadia

I am making this adorable gat however after competing the hat before the face and add ons it seems really big for a child. Does this change once you add the face and add ons or should I attempt to adjust the pattern?
If it is too big, you can stop at any increase round to make it smaller, just increase less. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you need help. I hope it fits. Mine fit my 3 year old nephew. ~Nadia
Hi, Nadia. And a blessed New Year to you and yours. I am making the Minecraft creeper hat and am questioning the information about round six and around seven and round eight. Round six says that at the end you’ll have 54 stitches , and when you’re done round seven it says you’ll have 60 stitches but then on round eight it’s back to 54 stitches. I’m not sure how that happened.
Secondly do you have any patterns for five nights at Freddy’s characters I would certainly appreciate any that you might have. Thank you very much. I have quite enjoyed making the Minecraft creeper hat
