12 Days of Christmas: Owl Ornament

This adorable Owl Ornament is our third pattern in the 12 Days of Christmas Ornament collection! This is such a cute little crocheted gift to adorn your tree or use it instead of a bow on a package for the owl lover in your life!

Materials you will need:
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in any colors you want. I used Light Gray, Paddy Green, Black, White, and Cherry Red
E-3.50mm Crochet Hook
Stuffing
Yarn Needle
Scissors

NOTES:
-Use a larger hook to make this larger.
-This ornament measures approximately 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide

Special stitches:
Ch(s): chain(s)
YO: Yarn Over
BLO: Back Loop Only
St(s): Stitch(es)
Sl st: slip stitch
SK: Skip
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half Double Crochet
DC: Double Crochet

Pattern:

Wings:
Make 2 in Paddy Green
Ch 2
Row 1: 4 HDC in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (4)
Row 2: 2 HDC in each st across, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 3: [2SC in next st, SC in next st] 4 times. (12)
Fasten off with long tail for sewing.

Beak:
With Cherry Red
Ch 4
Row 1: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, SC in next, HDC in last ch
Fasten off with long tail for sewing.

Eyes:
Make 2 in Black
Ch 2
Rnd 1: 4 SC in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to first st, fasten off with long tail for sewing.
Add a white fleck of yarn in the eyes for detail.

Body:
With Light Gray
Work in BLO and in continuous rounds
Ch 11
Rnd 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook and across, put 3 SC in last ch, continue to work on opposite side of foundation chain, SC in each st across, put 2 SC in last st. Insert Stitch marker to mark your rounds (22)
Rnd 2-12: 1 SC in each st around
Rnd 13: [SC2TOG, SC in next 9 sts] 2 times. (20)
Attach appliqué pieces
Rnd 14: [SC2TOG, SC in next 3 sts] 4 times. (16)
Stuff body and continue onto next round
Rnd 15: [SC2TOG, SC in next 2 sts] 4 times. (12)
Stuff body a little more if needed
Rnd 16: [SC2TOG] 6 times.
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Assembly:
See video tutorial for visual instructions to sew everything together.
Sew the appliques on he owl before closing it up completely.
Add two ties on the top corners of the “ears” (See photos for visual instructions)
Weave in all ends.
