Rnd 1: FDC 230 and sl st to first st without twisting foundation row. Or you can Ch 230 or 232 (as I say in the video tutorial) and Sl st to first ch, Ch 2, DC in each Ch around, sl st to first st, Do not turn. (230)
Rnd 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st), Work in BLO, DC in each st around, Sl st to first st, do not turn.
Rnds 3-18: repeat Rnd 2 (you can continue and make yours wider if you want!)
Fasten off, Weave in all ends.

NOTES:
-This project uses 1,220 yards of yarn. I am making the size Small/Medium. Keep reading to learn how to make this smaller or bigger.
-Use a smaller hook to make these smaller

-Watch the FULL video tutorial for visual instructions for each round and tips on how to make this smaller and bigger.
-Weave in all the ends as you go so you don’t have to weave them all in at the very end.
-Your starting chain should be any multiple of 5 (I start with 75, you can start with 65, 75, 85, 95), Round 2 increases 5 stitches evenly. Rounds 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 increase by 10 stitches evenly each round. If you need to increase more, you can continue with the established pattern of increases and then go onto the instructions for the front of the poncho and the back of the poncho to create the front slits.
-If you want to make this smaller, stop increasing at any round (maybe round 5 or 6 so you have about 120 sts), then go onto instructions on making the front and back of the poncho.
-TURN YOUR WORK FOR EACH ROW!!!

-The measurements for this poncho are as follows: Tail: 9 inches (22.86 cm), slits in the front: 10 inches around (25.4cm), Shoulder to bottom: 27 inches (68.58cm), Across shoulders: 17 inches (43.18cm), Hood length: 16 inches (40.64cm), Waist: 48 inches around (121.92cm), Hips: 50 inches around (127 cm), Pockets: 4 inches deep (10.16cm)
-Please know you can make this bigger or smaller with very few mathematical changes.
If you need to make this bigger, here is the start of the pattern for a foundation chain of 85.
Ch 85
Rnd 1: Sl st to 1st ch to form a large ring (this should fit over your head), Ch up 2 (does not count as st), DC in each ch around, sl st to first DC. Turn. (85)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, [2DC in next st, 1 DC in next 16 sts] 5 times, sl st to first DC, Turn. (90)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, [2DC in next st, 1 DC in next 8 sts] 10 times, sl st to first DC, turn. (100)

Fasten off, weave in ends.
Front of Poncho: Row 26: Mark 60 sts across the front (see video tutorial for other sizes), Attach yarn in first marked st, Ch 3 (counts as st), DC in each st to next marked st, leave the rest of the sts unworked, turn. (60)
Row 27-36: Ch 3, DC in each st across, turn. (60) Work these rows until it is 5 inches from row 26. You can end early if you want, or continue working rows to make it longer.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Back of Poncho: Row 26: Attach yarn to free stitch on Row 25 of poncho, Ch up 3 (counts as st), DC in each st across, turn. (100)
Rows 27-36: Ch 3, DC in each st across, turn. (100) Work these rows until it is 5 inches from row 26. You can end early if you want, or continue working rows to make it equal to the front of the poncho.
Do not fasten off, continue onto row 37

Hood:
Attach yarn to the top collar of poncho (See video tutorial for specific location) Row 1: Ch 3 (Counts as st), DC in each st across, turn. (74/75 sts)

Continue working rows until the hood measures 15 inches.

If you need to do more rows, continue to do more rows until you are satisfied. Then Fasten off and sew to earflap.

So many little girls love to play dress up or pretend to be their favorite Disney Princess. I was no exception, and that spirit was something I never grew out of. I love Disney movies and the characters they embody. My Enchanted Rose Cape was inspired by one of my favorites. Fashioned after a scene from Beauty and the Beast, I created this caplet/cape combination piece to add to a costume that I am in the process of creating.
As I was creating this piece, I saw the potential for so many possibilities that could come out of this one fashion item. Changing the color to ivory, or even a sparkly white yarn, this would make a lovely winter bridal cape. In fact, just changing the color to match something in your wardrobe would make this a perfect piece for a formal cover-up. It could be an everyday poncho/cape in tones of grays or warm browns. This could also be transformed into other costume capes for characters such as Red Riding Hood, Rose Red, or any other fairy-tale or medieval character. The possibilities in color choices are endless, and the ideas know no bounds. Have fun with it!!
It doesn’t stop there. If you prefer to not include the longer cape, this would make a cute little caplet, or remove the hood and it makes a nice poncho. Adjust the size and you can change the whole look! With this easy repeat pattern and stitch, anything is possible!

Poncho
Ch 90 (or any multiple of 3). Sl st to 1st ch to form a large ring.
Rnd 1: ch 1, [sc, ch 2, sc] in same ch, *sk 2 ch’s, [sc, ch 2, sc] in next ch, repeat from * around, ending with sk last 2 chs, sl st to 1st sc of the round, and sl st into ch 2 sp. (30 ch 2 sps)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 DC in same sp, put 3 DC in each ch 2 sp around, sl st to beg. ch up 3 and into next st. (90 DC)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, [sc, ch 2, sc] in same st, *sk 2 sts, [sc, ch 2, sc] in next st, repeat from * around, ending with sk last st and beg. ch up 3, sl st to 1st sc and sl st into ch sp.
At this point, put a stitch marker at the beginning and halfway point of your work (see video tutorial for visual instructions).
Rnd 4: ch 3, 5 DC in same sp, put 3 DC in each ch sp until you get to the halfway point, put 6 DC in the halfway point ch 2 sp, then put 3DC in each of the ch sps until the end of the round.
Rnds 5-27: Repeat rows 3 and 4 until your piece is as long as you want it to be. I ended on round 27. You want to end on an ODD round (aka a repeat of round 3)
Rnd 28: Ch 3, 2 DC in same sp, put 3 DC in each ch 2 sp around, sl st to beg. ch up 3 and into next st.
Rnd 29: Ch 1, [sc, ch 2, sc] in same st, *sk 2 sts, [sc, ch 2, sc] in next st, repeat from * around, ending with sk last st and beg. ch up 3, sl st to 1st sc and sl st into ch sp.
Rnd 30: Ch 3, 2 DC in same sp, put 3 DC in each ch 2 sp around, sl st to beg. ch up 3.

Row 4: Sl st into ch 2 sp, ch 3, 5DC in same sp, 3DC in each ch sp until the last sp, 6 DC in last ch sp, ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Sl st into 2nd st of 6 dc grouping, ch 1, [sc, ch 2, sc] in same st, sk 2 sts, [sc, ch 2, sc in next st, repeat from * across, sk last st, ch 1 turn.
Row 6: sl st into ch 2 sp, ch 3, 2 DC in same sp, 3 dc in each ch 2 sp across, ch 1, turn.
Rows 7-38: Repeat Rows 3-6 as many times as you want to make your cape as long and wide as you want it to be. (I ended on row 38) Be sure to end on a repeat of row 5.
Rows 39-40: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Fasten off. Weave in all ends.
Hood:
The hood is made separately and then sewn onto neck part of poncho. See video tutorial for specifics on how to sew this to the cape.
Ch 92 (or however many chains you began with + 2)
Row 1: (1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC) in 3rd ch from hook, *Sk next 2 ch, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in next ch, repeat from * across, end with 1 HDC in the last ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (Counts as DC), *3 DC in next ch-2 space. Repeat from * across, end with 1 DC in top of turning ch, turn.
Row 3: Ch 2 (Counts as HDC), * (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in 2nd dc of next 3DC grouping, repeat from * across, end with 1 HDC in top of turning ch, turn.
Rows 4-22: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your hood is as wide as you want it to be. (End on an even row (aka a repeat of row 2).
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Sew hood to cape and sew up the top of the hood (see video tutorial for visual instructions)
Time for Fur!!
Sl st fur around hood, around bottom of poncho, and around the bottom of the cape.
Weave in all your ends, and enjoy your cape!

This infant pullover hoodie is a very versatile piece for any baby layette. This simple, essential part of a baby boy wardrobe can be used in a variety of ways, making it one of the most well used items you will ever create.
Whether it is a cool summer night and you need a little cover-up to guard from the chill, or layered on a winter day to feel like they are wrapped up in warmth, this little hoodie can be used all year round. There are not many items which can be that multi-functional.
Using the softest fibers, I have created this basic piece that can be adapted to be gender friendly for a little boy or girl. You can get creative and add your own adaptations of this pattern by putting on a pocket or applique. The sky’s the limit with creativity of this great pullover!

Most of you know that I get inspiration from a variety of ways when creating my pieces. “The Enchantress Bonnet” is no exception. It reminds me of the enchantress from ancient literature or from a character in a fairy-tale.
Recently, I started binge watching the series “Once Upon A Time” on Netflix. This series is a drama series that brings fairytales to life and intertwines characters from stories I remember as a child. I’m totally addicted to this show! I’ve noticed that I adore the costumes worn by the characters. I had seen a hood design and I fell in love with it. I love the texture from the crocodile stitch combined with the front post and back post half-double crochet. It looks very detailed and complex.

Hat With Mountain Print Ch 117 Row 1: 1 HDCin 2nd ch from hook and across. (116)
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, (counts as stitch) *FPHDC around next st, BPHDC around next, repeat from * Across. HDC in last st.
Row 3: Ch 2, turn, (counts as stitch) *BPHDC around next st, FPHDC around next, repeat from * across. HDC in last st.
Rows 4-20: Repeat rows 2 & 3, ending on a repeat of Row 2.
Row 21: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 9 sts, * sc2tog, sc in next 10 sts, repeat from * across until you have 11 sts left. sc2tog, sc in last 9 sts. Do NOT fasten off. Change color to Chocolate (See video for visual instructions for this part)
Crocodile stitch section:
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, dc in first st, sk next st, *V-stitch, sk next 2 sts, repeat from * across to last 3 sts, V in next st, sk next st, dc in last st.
Row 2: Turn, sl st in first dc, *work crocodile stitch around next V-stitch, skip next V-stitch, repeat from * across, work scale around last V-stitch, sl st in last st.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, dc in first st, *V-stitch in center of next scale, V-stitch in skipped V-stitch, repeat from * across, V-stitch in center of last scale, dc in last st.
Row 4: Turn, sl st in first 2 dc and in ch space of first V, *work crocodile stitch around next V-stitch, skip next V-stitch, repeat from * finishing with scale in next V-stitch, sl st in ch space of last V and in last 2 dc.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, DC in first st, *V-stitch in skipped V-stitch, V-stitch in center of next scale, repeat from * across, finishing with V-stitch in last skipped V-stitch, dc in last st.
Row 6-10: Repeat Rows 2 – 5, then repeat row 2 once more.
Do NOT fasten off, remove your hook and sew up the back
Sewing up the back:
Fold work in half, with right sides together, so that Row 10 forms the front of the hat. Sew back seam. Turn hat right-side-out again. (See video for visual instructions on this section)
Continue with crocheting:
Pick up loop from last stitch of previous section, and turn work so you are now working in the sides of the rows along the bottom:
Row 1 (WS): Ch 1, sc evenly spaced along sides of rows all the way around the bottom of hood. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Braids:
Take 12 strands of yarn that measure 48 inches and pull half through the bottom of one side of hood and tie a knot. There should be 24 strands. Braid using 8 strands of yarn in each bunch, and tie a knot at the bottom. (Do the same thing for the other side). See video tutorial for visual instructions on this section

As winter approaches, the need to bundle up becomes more prevalent. From top to bottom, we pile on layers to keep ourselves from the bitter cold. Although I made this particular hood for my costume this Halloween, once made, I realized how warm this actually is (since I wore it all night long).
Many of my blog followers on Facebook and Instagram inquired about me making a video tutorial for this project. It occurred to me that this would be perfect for the season as winter apparel. It offers a very stylish option, and it is very different than your average winter hat or scarf.
This is a cat hoodie of course, however, it is also very versatile. You do not have to put on the ears, or you can replace the ears with bear ears or fox ears. Custom make this to any animal of your choice! The creativity that is in this project knows no bounds! You could take it to a different level and line the face with fur around row 1. I’m sure you will find this to be a very fun and easy project. These make great gifts, and they are incredibly warm to wear!
When I was looking up inspiration online for the Cheshire Cat, I came across this photo. I could NOT find a pattern, but knew I could make one myself. This photo served as the inspiration to the hood I made. The original designer for this hood shown below is Archaical. You can find her work here on here website or here on her Facebook.

Fasten off, weave in all ends.
Lace in the back of hoodie: With P Hook
With Lake Tahoe Blue, Ch 200, fasten off. Use the long chain to lace up the back of the hood. (see video for visual instructions)
Front Tassels:
Take 3 strands of each color (total of 12 strands) that measure 48 inches. Attach to each end of the front of the hood and create braids. (See video for visual instructions)
Ears: Make 2 (Optional) With L hook Outer Ear:
With Lake Tahoe Blue, Ch 7 Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, ch 1, turn (6) Row 2: Sc across (6) Row 3: sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, ch 1, turn (4) Row 4: sc across (4) Row 5: sc2tog twice, ch 1, turn (2) Row 6: sc2tog, ch 1, turn (1)
Continue to single crochet all the way around the triangle, fasten off with long tail for sewing.
Inner ear:
With Dallas Gray, Ch 5 Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, ch 1, turn (4) Row 2: sc across, ch 1, turn (4) Row 3: sc2tog twice, ch 1, turn (2) Row 4: sc across, ch 1, turn (2) Row 5: Sc2tog, ch 1, turn (1)
Continue to single crochet all the way around triangle, fasten off with long tail for sewing
Attach gray part of ear to blue part of ear, sew ears to hoodie between rows 2 & 3, weave in all ends.
Tail:
Change color every 10 Rounds. Work In continuous Rounds, moving stitch marker up each round. Add stuffing as you go, I found it easier to stuff after every 10 rounds.
Ch 2, Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6) Rnd 2: Sc in each st around. (6) Rnd 3: 2 sc in each st around. (12) Rnd 4: Sc in each st around. (12) Rnd 5: [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st] 6 times. (18) Rnd 6: Sc in each st around. (18) Rnd 7: [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] 6 times. (24) Rnd 8-60 (or however long you want to make it): Sc in each st around, change color after rounds 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50.
Apply fur at the tip of the tail by sewing it on.
Sew end closed and weave elastic through and wear around your waist, or sew the end closed and pin it to your pants!
Weave in all ends

No matter where you are on this Earth, you will encounter days, weeks, or months of cold weather–the kind of weather that you want to just curl up on the couch with a comfy sweater and a cup of tea (or coffee, if that’s your preference).
This Hexagonal Granny Cardigan is that perfect sweater for the cold weather days. It’s like wrapping yourself up in the comfort of your favorite blanket!
Follow along with this video to make yours today! In this video I make a size small/medium, but I give clear instructions on how to make it bigger or smaller using your measurements.
There are a lot of fun details that go into this cardigan, from pockets, to the hood, to the trim, to the length. A lot of this pattern is creator’s choice. You can make variations for all these details.
If you opt not to add a hood, you can follow along on the hood part, but just do 5-10 rows without sewing it closed. It will give a collar look.
You can put buttons down the whole front. Add toggles as buttons. You can add the pockets, or leave the pockets out. Your color choices are unlimited. I used one wooden button at the neck that I got on Etsy through the shop WoodBeFancy. You should check it out and get your buttons there!!
One of my biggest guidance suggestions is to use a lighter weight yarn. This is a VERY heavy piece, even with the Caron Simply Soft yarn. The bulkier the yarn, the bulkier the sweater. Click here to read about my first prototype where I used the same pattern using Red Heart yarn which is a lot heavier and bulkier.
Overall, using the Red Heart yarn, it looked nice, but I felt like it was WAY too bulky for my body shape, and it is EXTREMELY heavy. That is an absolute personal preference.
I cannot wait to see how creative all of you will be!!
-7 skeins (Approximately 2200yds) Caron Simply Soft—Pumpkin and Bone (You can basically use any type of yarn for this project) I used 6 skeins of my main color and 1 skein of my contrast color
–Size K-6.50mm Crochet hook (you may use any size hook again, this pattern goes off measurements so gauge doesn’t really matter)
-Wooden Button (You can use any type of button, I got mine at WoodBeFancy from Etsy)
–Yarn Needle
–Scissors
Ch: chain
YO: Yarn over
Sl st: slip stitch
SC: single crochet
DC: double crochet
Notes:
This pattern is worked by making 2 hexagons first, then sewing the sleeves, then lengthening the cardigan, then sewing the back, then lengthening the sleeves, then making the hood, then doing the finishing touches with the pockets and trim. If my written pattern gets confusing, refer to the video for easy to follow visual instructions.
PATTERN:
Hexagon: Make 2. With Pumpkin
Ch 4
Rnd 1: 2dc in the 4th ch from hook, *ch 2, 3 dc in same ch space, repeat from * 4 more times, ending with ch 1, sc to ch up 3 at the beginning of the round. Ch 3, turn. (6 groups of 3 dc, 6 ch 2 sps)
Rnd 2: 2dc in same corner sp , *3dc, ch2 3dc in next corner, repeat from * around ending with ch 1, sc to ch up 3 at beginning of round. Ch 3, turn. (12 groups of 3 dc, 6 ch 2 sps)
Rnd 3: 2 dc in same corner sp. *3 dc in sp between double crochet groupings from prev. row until you get to the next corner. (3dc, ch 2, 3dc) in next corner. Repeat from * around. End each round with ch 1, sc to ch up 3 at the beginning of round. Ch 3, turn.
Repeat round 3 until one side of the hexagon measures half of your chest measurement. (If your chest measures 40 inches, make sure that each side of the hexagon measures 20 inches) If you make a few extra rounds, no biggie, it will be a little more slouchy of a cardigan. On your very last round, be sure to end it with a ch 2, sl st to ch up 3 at beginning of round, fasten off with a long tail for sewing on both hexagons.
Assembly Step:
Fold each hexagon to an “L” shape by matching up the corners. Be sure the corner you fastened off with is at the top of the sleeve. Sew the sleeves closed with that extra yarn you cut when you fastened off. (See video for instructions) Do not sew all the way closed, be sure to leave 4-5 dc groupings left unworked. Fasten off. Do this for both sleeves.
Lengthening the cardigan:
Attach yarn to bottom corner of one hexagon, work in rows: Row 1: ch up 3, 2 more dc in corner sp, 3 dc in each sp between double crochet groupings until you get to the end, 3 dc into the corner, ch up 3, turn.
Row 2: 3 dc in each sp between double crochet groupings until you get to the end, 1 dc in last st (see video for visual instruction)
Repeat rows 1 & 2 until you have reached desired length. (I made 20 rows) Repeat this process for the other hexagon as well. To fasten off, make sure to fasten off with a long tail for one hexagon. For the other hexagon, fasten off and weave in end.
Assembly Step:
Use the long tail to sew up the back using a mattress stitch. (Again, see video for instructions on how to mattress stitch)
Hood:
Attach yarn to the front side of the skipped stitches from sewing up the sleeve. Repeat rows 1 & 2 of lengthening the cardigan until your hood is approximately 15 inches long. Fasten off with long tail, fold top in half and sew down the center. (See video for visual instructions) (I Made 20 rows)
Lengthening sleeves:
Attach yarn to underarm side of sleeve, *ch up 3, 2dc in same sp, 3 dc in each sp between double crochet groupings, all the way around. Sl st to beginning ch up 3. Repeat from * until sleeves are as long as you want them to be. (I made 15 rounds)
Pockets: Make 2
Round 1: Ch 4. In fourth ch from hook work 2 dc, ch 2, *3 dc, ch 2* twice, 3 dc, ch 1, sc to top of 4th ch
Round 2: Ch 3. In sp formed by sc at end of prev rnd work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc. *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* in each ch-2 sp. Join with ch 1, sc to first ch up 3 of rnd.
Round 3: Ch 3. Work 2 dc in same sp. Work 3 dc in each sp bet 3-dc groups and work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in each ch-2 corner sp. Join with ch 1, sc to first ch up 3 of rnd.
Repeat rnd 3 three more times for a total of 6 rounds. Change color to Bone for last 2 rounds if desired. Fasten off with long tail for sewing. Sew pockets to cardigan. (See video on where exactly to place pockets)
Outer edge:
Attach Accent color yarn to bottom corner, work granny stitch (3 dc in each sp) around edge of entire cardigan. Make 2 rounds. (See video for specifics on how to crochet around seams and in corners)
Repeat process for each sleeve. Fasten off, weave in all ends.

Recently, I was contacted to make a Hexagonal Granny Cardigan sweater. Anyone who knows me, knows that I will gladly accept a challenge that is crochet related. I felt a little over my head once I began. Things were just not going my way. I’m sure many of you can relate when you start a project and it doesn’t look anything like what it’s supposed to. So, I frogged my work, started over, walked away, got in a fight with my yarn, and I almost gave up. Almost.
That’s what challenges are. They’re not always easy. They’re not always perfect. It’s trying to figure out how to create something from this ball of yarn with limited knowledge. So, I kept at it. I kept trying to solve this puzzle. Little by little, it started to take shape.
I finished this cardigan in a time frame much longer than anticipated. Ultimately, it isn’t exactly what I wanted to see in the end, but this is a prototype mock-up of a great project that I plan to film in the future. I will be making some changes now that I’m finished and can modify and fix some of the imperfections and problems that I encountered. I’ve had the opportunity to sit back and reassess my work and know how to recreate this jacket/duster/cardigan to improve it and make it a much better pattern.
The original photo I was working off of had no written pattern, so I eyeballed the project with a lot of guesswork. I used Red Heart Yarn because it’s one of my go-to favorites. Unfortunately, for this particular project, it was just too bulky, so I will be changing the type of yarn to Caron Simply Soft for the final project. I also think that adding pockets on the front will vastly improve the overall look and usefulness of this great piece. Who doesn’t love a big comfy cardigan that you can wrap up in on a cold day, complete with pockets and a hood?! It’s like wrapping yourself up in a cozy blanket! All in all, I am satisfied with the way this one looks, so I’m excited to get started on the new modifications and sharing it with all of you!
