12 Days of Christmas: Poinsettia with Pearls

Day 9 is here!! With it brings us this Poinsettia with Pearls! It’s a perfect lampshade ornament or dress up that tree! No matter which way you choose, you can’t go wrong with this lovely accent piece. Oooohhh…another idea–make several and cascade them down a stairway banister! So many options!!

Make 7 in white
Make 3 in Teal
Ch 13
Rnd 1: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, SC in next 2 Chs, HDC in next 2 Chs, DC in next 4 chs, HDC in next Ch, SC in next, Sl st in last, Ch 1, Work on opposite side of Foundation Row, Sl st into the same st as your last sl st, SC in next st, HDC in next st, DC in next 4 sts, HDC in next 2 sts, SC in next 2 sts, Sl st in last, do not slip stitch in next st, work in continuous rounds.

Assembly:
Sew all the petals together using the video tutorial as a guide. Sew pearly beads to the center or glue them.
Attach a pin to the back to put it on a lamp shade or tape on the back to add it to a gift top! Put them in your Christmas tree for added decoration!

Crochet Tutorial: Poinsettia

Native to Central America, the poinsettia flower made its way to the United States in 1828. It was discovered in the wilderness of Southern Mexico by Dr. Joel Roberts Poinsett. He was the U.S. ambassador to Mexico at the time. People wonder, “what does a poinsettia have to do with Christmas?” One interpretation of the plant is that it symbolizes the star of Bethlehem, the heavenly body that led the three wise men to the place where Jesus was born.

Another Mexican legend tells of a small girl who only could offer weeds as a gift to Jesus on the night he was born. When she brought the weeds to Jesus as an offering, they blossomed into the plants as we know as poinsettias. These flowers are known as Flores de Noche Buena, which is Spanish for Flowers of the Holy Night.

Today, I have crocheted my very own version of this beautiful flower. It is perfect for adorning a tree, adding to a gift, or using as a decoration throughout the home. In this easy-to-follow tutorial, we create our very own for this holiday season.
