Crochet Tutorial: Houndstooth Stocking Hat

Crochet Tutorial: Houndstooth Stocking Hat

Who doesn’t love the drama of a great hat? It is the finishing touch to an outfit. The proverbial “cherry on top.” Each hat we wear makes a statement. Why not make that statement with a fun Houndstooth Stocking Hat this year? Picture everyone in their holiday pajamas and each head capped with one of these great pieces! I see next year’s Christmas card just waiting to be made with that scene in mind! A comfy cap that is sure to please everyone. Warm, fun, whimsical, and perfect for the whole family! This hat is a “Done in a Day” easy project. Add a yarn or faux fur pom to complete this look!!

Crochet Tutorial: Link to the Past Stocking Cap

Crochet Tutorial: Link to the Past Stocking Cap

As many of you may recall, each year I design, create, and model an EPIC cosplay costume ensemble for Halloween. If you have been following my blog, you remember 2 years ago my Cheshire Cat and Mad Hatter Costumes here or last year, The Beauty and The Beast costumes here.

Each year I try to challenge myself to something new. I began my 2017 costumes over the weekend and will release pieces over the next few months just in time for Halloween. Each video tutorial and written pattern will be FREE, and although many patterns will be related to the costume ensemble, several will be great to create on their own!!

One such piece is this Link to Past Stocking Cap. This unique Phrygian Cap is the first in a series of several videos that will be made to complete our costumes as Link and Zelda!! For those who are on my social media, it didn’t take long for the guesses to come in and easily many of you knew immediately what I was in the process of creating.

This design is very versatile. If you are not a fan of the video game or gaming scene, this can be made in any color as just a stocking hat in time for cooler weather. You can even use two tones by making your reverse single crochet stitches in a complimentary color to the hat. Red and White would make a peppermint swirl, or Red and Green would make a cute holiday hat. Removing the side laces and adding a bell on the end of the conical shape would make a darling elfin hat!

There are many fun ways to explore broadening this pattern to other great creations! For those of you who are on board to see what I create for Halloween, stay tuned for the next several weeks as I reveal more pieces for this EPIC cosplay creation. Nate and I are very excited to share another great costume with our wonderful YARNutopia community!
