FREE Written Crochet Pattern: Ruffled Trim Sweater Vest

I decided to get back into fashion pieces. I have been taking time to ease back into filming following Nasir’s diagnosis and felt it was time to dip my hook back into the fashion pool with my Ruffle Trim Sweater Vest. I used Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend Yarn on this piece and am SO PLEASED! This is so cute over a long sleeve t-shirt or blouse, but can also pair nicely with a tank top for a warmer weather look. If you are so inclined, you can also wear nothing under it and just use a little boob tape to hold it in place (or wear it over a sexy bra). You can adjust the length to make it a crop top or a little longer for a full vest look. This can be entirely flexible to your taste. Add bows to the front (check my vid here) or adorn with floral appliques! You can make the same pattern multiple ways for a new look every time! This would also make a great gift!!

–Size -H-5.00mm Crochet Hook
-Measuring Tape
–Yarn Needle

NOTES:

-Use a smaller hook to make this smaller
-Use a bigger hook to make this bigger
-This is written in US terms
-This took about 1 week to make but I did not work on it continuously.
-You can check out yarnsub.com to see yarn substitutions that are equal to the Lion Brand yarn I used in this project.
-This pattern with video tutorial shows the measurement as 40 inch bust, 40 inch waist, 20 inch length
-For Panel 1 and 2, measure from your armpit to the center of your chest and that is how many ROWS you will make. To measure the foundation chain of these panels, you need to measure from your navel, up around your shoulder to the back where your navel would hit on your back, that measurement needs to be the WIDTH of your panel or the length of the foundation chain. (See video tutorial for more visual instructions)
-For the bottom waist piece, you need to make the foundation chain the whole measurement of your waist and the length of it can be as long as you want to make the shirt.

Special stitches:
Ch(s): chain(s)
YO: Yarn Over
St(s): Stitch(es)
Sl st: slip stitch
SK: Skip
FSC: Foundation Single Crochet
FDC: Foundation Double Crochet
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half Double Crochet
DC: Double Crochet

Pattern:

Panel 1 and 2 (Left and Right)

Ch 101 (or FSC 100) (yours might be longer or shorter depending on your measurement–see NOTES section)

Row 1: SC in 2nd Ch from hook and across, Ch 1, Turn. (100)

Row 2: SC in each st across, Ch 1, Turn.

Rows 3-28: Repeat Row 2

Row 29: SC across and also continue to crochet around entire piece putting 3 SC in corners.
Sl st to first st and fasten off with long tail for sewing later.
If this is not wide enough or too wide, make more or less rows (See NOTES section for how to measure)
(Be sure to make 2 panels before going onto the bottom piece)

Ruffles:

On outside of each panel attach yarn to corner and only work along ONE SIDE of the panel.
Row 1: Ch 2, 2 DC in each st across, Ch 2, Turn

Row 2: *2 DC in next st, DC in next st, Repeat from * across. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Bottom Waistband Piece:

Ch 120 (or any amount that measures your waist measurement when the foundation chain is semi-stetched)

Row 1: Sl st to first Ch to form a large ring, Ch 1, SC in each Ch around, sl st to first st, Ch 1, TURN.

Row 2: SC in each st around, Sl st to first st, Ch 1, TURN.

Rows 3-24: Repeat Row 2
If you want this piece shorter or longer, feel free to make more or less rows.

Assembly Step:
overlap your panels across the front and back and line them up with the bottom of your shirt. Sew across the front, then across the back. Be sure that your “Seam” on the waistband part is on the back side of your piece when you’re sewing. (See video tutorial for visual instructions on how to line everything up together) I used the whip stitch to sew it all together. Weave in all your ends when finished.

Ties:

Chain 150 (or more) and fasten off (make 2)
Weave them in and out of the waist piece across the front for one and across the back for the other, then cinch it and tie into bows.

Weave in all ends.

There are a variety of fiber textures that I used to create this eclectic boho-inspired poncho! I decided to create this free-flowing Patchouli Poncho that just begs you to get outdoors on a beautiful day and feel the sunshine pour down upon you! I used my Sublime Light Granny Square from the 365 Days of Granny Squares for the border design, and it was just the right touch for this avant-garde piece! With Colorscapes in the color Rome,
Ch 114 or any even number that will wrap around your neck loosely
Row 1: SC in 4th ch from hook, *Ch 1, Sk 1 Ch, SC in next ch, repeat from * across ending with SC in last ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 2, SC in the next Ch 1 sp, *Ch 1, SC in the next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across, ending with SC in the ch sp at the start of Row 1, turn.

Rows 3- 35: Repeat Row 2

Row 36: Ch 2, SC in the next Ch 1 sp, *Ch 1, SC in the next ch 1 sp, repeat from * until you have 16 SC sts, leave the rest of the row unworked. Turn.

Rows 37-80: Repeat Row 2 on this shorter section. (This is creating the “over one shoulder” side)
After Row 80, fasten off with long tail for sewing.

Fold the piece as shown in the video tutorial here and continue to work on the opposite end of the foundation row working down the piece.

Attach Italian Story Ombra Yarn in the color Mare

Once your piece is folded and sewn together like a poncho, then Attach new yarn to the first stitch of your foundation row

After Row 10, fasten off, weave in ends.

Rows 11-12: Ch 2, SC in the next Ch 1 sp, *Ch 1, SC in the next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across, ending with SC in the ch sp at the start of previous row, turn.

Change Color to Super Saver in the color Gold

Rows 2-14: Ch 2, SC in the next Ch 1 sp, *Ch 1, SC in the next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across, ending with SC in the ch sp at the start of previous row, turn.
After Row 14, fasten off

The next step you need to do is mark 28 stitches in from Row 14 of the last section you crocheted on both sides of the poncho. (See video tutorial at minute 36 if this is confusing)

Attach Colorscapes Yarn to the ch sp after the stitch marker

Row 1: Ch 2, SC in the next Ch 1 sp, *Ch 1, SC in the next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across, ending with SC in the ch sp at the start of previous row until you get to the stitch marker on the opposite side. Leave the rest of the stitches unworked. Turn.

Rows 2-14: Ch 2, SC in the next Ch 1 sp, *Ch 1, SC in the next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across, ending with SC in the ch sp at the start of previous row, turn.

After Row 14, Fasten off.

You will now work along the edge of the Colorscapes section you just crocheted.

**Assembly Step: Sew this little flap to the poncho and do the same thing for the opposite side of the poncho.**

Make your 14 Granny Squares and sew them to the border of your poncho. See video tutorial at 55 minutes in the video for visual instructions on sewing the granny squares together and to the poncho.

Neck of poncho:
Work in continuous rounds, attach Colorscape yarn to the back of the poncho along the neckline, Ch 2, SC in the next Ch 1 sp, *Ch 1, SC in the next ch 1 sp, repeat from * around
Round 2-10: Repeat the previous round.
Fasten off after round 10.
Weave in ends.

Assembly:
Weave in all ends.
Add fringe to the bottom of the poncho, add a long drawstring braid to the neck of your poncho.

Crochet Tutorial: Sharp Dressed Man Vest

Over the course of the week, I designed and created this Sharp Dressed Man Vest. This semi-formal fashion piece for men can be paired with a shirt and tie or worn over a plain jersey shirt. A versatile piece that would be perfect for the man in your life. A collection of stitches provide rich texture and great elements of design in this two-toned sweater vest.

I want to give a special shout out to Nate for waking up early and braving the freezing cold weather to model this piece. He wears it so well! I really go crazy over this Sharp Dressed Man!

The best thing about this Sharp Dressed Man vest is that with a bit of basic math, the stitch calculations can be adjusted for any size!! From infant to adult this design can be modified for anyone!

Although I didn’t make this design with pockets, adding that detail would be an easy adjustment for an entirely new look.

Bottom edging:

This infant pullover hoodie is a very versatile piece for any baby layette. This simple, essential part of a baby boy wardrobe can be used in a variety of ways, making it one of the most well used items you will ever create.

Whether it is a cool summer night and you need a little cover-up to guard from the chill, or layered on a winter day to feel like they are wrapped up in warmth, this little hoodie can be used all year round. There are not many items which can be that multi-functional.

Using the softest fibers, I have created this basic piece that can be adapted to be gender friendly for a little boy or girl. You can get creative and add your own adaptations of this pattern by putting on a pocket or applique. The sky’s the limit with creativity of this great pullover!

–Caron Simply Soft yarn (315 Yards) in Bone
–Bernat Softee Baby Yarn (less than 100 yards) in Pale Blue

-To make this smaller or bigger, use a smaller or bigger hook size. I do not have the stitch numbers for larger sizes.
-This Sweater will fit a child up to 9-10 months. It is quite stretchy.
-This is made from the neck down, then sleeves, and hood last
-Final dimensions: Length (shoulder to bottom): 12 Inches, Sleeve Length: 10 Inches, Waist: 17 Inches Circumference.
-This can be made longer or shorter by repeating the rounds.

Sweater:
With Bone
Ch 50, Sl st to first ch to form a ring
Ch up 2
Rnd 1: DC in same ch as ch up 2, DC in next 6 chs, V-Stitch in next ch, DC in next 9 chs, V-Stitch in next ch, DC in next 14 chs, V-Stitch in next ch, DC in next 9 chs, V-Stitch in next ch, DC in next 7 chs. Sl st to beginning dc of the round. Ch 2. (54 DC, 4 Ch 1 sps)

Rnd 2: DC in each DC, V-Stitch in each ch 1 sp of the V-Stitches. Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (62 DC, 4 ch 1 sps)

Rnd 3: DC in each DC, V-Stitch in each ch 1 sp of the V-Stitches. Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (70 DC, 4 ch 1 sps)

Rnd 4: DC in each DC, V-Stitch in each ch 1 sp of the V-Stitches. Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (78 DC, 4 ch 1 sps)

Rnd 8-12: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (Skipping the stitches we skipped for the arm holes) (54 DC)

After round 12, change to Blue

Rnd 13: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (54 DC)

Change to Bone

Rnd 14: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (54 DC)

Change to Blue

Rnd 15: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (54 DC)

Sleeves:
Attach Main Color yarn under arm where you attached the V-Stitches (See video tutorial at minute 28:53 for visual instructions)
Ch 2
Rnd 1: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (23 DC)
Rnd 2-5: Repeat Round 1 (23)
Change to Blue after round 5
Rnd 6: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (23)
Change to Bone
Rnd 7: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (23)
Change to Blue
Rnd 8: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (23)
Change to Bone
Rnds 9-11: DC in each st around, Sl st to beginning dc of the round, ch 2. (23)
Fasten off after round 11. Weave in ends.
Repeat the same for the 2nd sleeve.

Hood:
Mark 10th st from the left of the V-Stitch on the front of the sweater (See video tutorial for visual instructions)
Row 1: In BLO, Ch up 2, DC in same st, DC in the next 3 sts (in BLO), Now working in BOTH LOOPS, DC in each st to first V-Stitch. DC2TOG, DC in each st to next V-Stitch, DC2TOG, DC in each st to next V-Stitch, DC2TOG, DC in each st to next V-Stitch, DC2TOG, DC in the rest of the stitches and work the last 4 sts in the FRONT LOOPS where the first 4 sts where placed. (Again, I recommend viewing the video tutorial for this portion) Ch 2, turn. (50 DC)

Row 2-15: DC in each st across, Ch 2, turn. (50 DC)
Fasten off with Long tail for sewing.

Assembly Step:
Fold hood in half and sew top seam (View video tutorial for visual instructions)
SC around hood with Accent Color (blue). Fasten off, Weave in all ends
