Day 9 is here!! With it brings us this Poinsettia with Pearls! It’s a perfect lampshade ornament or dress up that tree! No matter which way you choose, you can’t go wrong with this lovely accent piece. Oooohhh…another idea–make several and cascade them down a stairway banister! So many options!!

Crochet Tutorial: Leaf Applique

I know you are “falling” for some of these “unbe-leaf-ably” silly puns. It helps to create good “chemis-tree” between us when we can “photo-sympathize” with how lame they can become. I know it’s “over-ELM-ing,” but we can still laugh together. I hope it’s “OAK-kay” that I continue to post until I get “stumped.” Even then I won’t “leaf” you “hanging” as I “branch” out and try to be more punny!

With 2 strands of yarn,
Ch 10
Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, SC in next, HDC in next, DC in next 2 chs, TR in next 3 chs, Ch 3, Sl st in last ch, Ch 3,
Work on opposite side of foundation ch, TR in next 3 sts, DC in next 2 chs, HDC in next, SC in next, Sl st in last. Fasten off.

With one strand of yarn and a different color,
Sl st around edge of leave and create the stem and sl st up the center. (See video tutorial for visual instructions.)
Weave in all ends.

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in any color you want. (Scraps only in shades of green/tan)
E-3.50mm Crochet Hook
-Twig (Stick from outside)
Thread (to make it into an ornament)
Yarn Needle
Scissors

NOTES:
-The smaller the hook, the better
-The stick I used was about 7 inches long
-Be careful tying your knots to not snap the twig in half

Ch(s): chain(s)
YO: Yarn Over
St(s): Stitch(es)
Sl st: slip stitch
SK: Skip
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half-Double Crochet
FHDC: Foundation Half Double Crochet

Top Strands: Make 2
FHDC 15, Fasten off. Weave in all ends

Next Strands: Make 2

FHDC 27, Fasten off. Weave in all ends

You should have 8 strands in total.

Assembly step:

Rnd 1: 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st to 1st st
Rnd 2: *Ch up 5, SC in 2nd ch from hook, HDC in next ch, DC in last 2 chs, Sk 1 st, sl st in next st, Repeat from * around. Sl st to beginning. (5 star points)
Fasten off, weave in ends

Assembly:
Attach Star to top of tree on twig and tie a strand of thread for an ornament. See video tutorial for visual instructions.

-You can use a smaller or larger hook to make this square depending on your tension. I wouldn’t use anything larger than a K-6.50mm Crochet Hook though.
-The finished square measures 28 inches across (72 cm)
-This project is worked from the center outward and then has motifs to sew on to the large piece

Row 3: Ch 4, skip ch sp, * [DC in next 2 sts, ch 1] twice, skip next sp, repeat from * to last st; DC in 3rd ch of ch4, turn. (50 sts)

Fasten off with long tail for sewing, weave in ends.

Bigger Snowflake: Make 3
With E-3.50mm crochet hook and white yarn

Ch 4, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 6 SC in ring. Sl st to 1st sc (6 sts)

Rnd 2: Ch up 1, SC in same st, *Ch 6, SC in next st, repeat from * around, sl st to 1st sc. (6 ch 6 sps)

Rnd 1: *Puff Stitch, ch 1, repeat from * 4 times. Sl st to first puff stitch. (5 puffs & 5 ch 1 sps)
