Crochet Tutorial: Nadia’s Wonderfully Warm Mittens

Crochet Tutorial: Nadia’s Wonderfully Warm Mittens

I am making the best out of these frigid temps this week as I finish yet another weather inspired pattern. With temperature well below zero and brutal wind chills, it is no wonder that my mind is always thinking of ways to stay as snug and cozy as I possibly can! Nadia’s Wonderfully Warm Mittens are my latest creation to come off my hook!

These cozy mitts are fantastic and definitely doing their job keeping my digits nice and toasty! Frigid air, don’t care, I got me a pair! Ok, that was silly, but these mittens are not! Using Red Heart Evermore Chunky Yarn, this pair works up fast and easy! I have noted how to make these a bit bigger if you want more room! Handmade mittens are inspired by days gone by when most of the winter worn items were homespun yet these will always stand the test of time. My Wonderfully Warm Mittens are functional and very stylish today and for generations to come! Make yourself a pair! These also make a great gift!

Oh, my hands hurt!

If you crochet as much as I do, there are going to be days that you push those hand and wrist muscles to their limits! Combine that with the fact that I have auto-immune issues including swollen joints from arthritis, there will be days when I wake up and my hands hardly function.

Today is one of those days.

Even typing this blog has forced me to take breaks because the muscle in my hand going into my wrist is causing a lot of discomfort. That discomfort is impairing my ability to do what I love!

Have you experienced something similar?

From time to time, I switch using a standard crochet hook to using an ergonomic handled hook to alleviate some of the tension and pressure in my wrist. There are points in time where even that doesn’t do enough to help my issue. After talking to my best friend, Nida, about my concerns, she sent me a pair of these fabulous gloves by Copper Joint.

Nida works in the medical field, so I trust her guidance and I decided to give these a try. I wasn’t disappointed. Although my pain can be far beyond the scope of what most things can help, these Copper Joint Gloves have been a crochet life-saver! Today I’ll be wearing them throughout the day as I work on my latest designs.

I know that I’m not alone in this experience, so I ask you, my YARNutopians to share with me your methods of finding relief for your tired and aching joints! Maybe your technique will help others who suffer the laborious tasks of chronic crochet syndrome! 😉

On a serious note, this truly is an issue that many can relate to. I’m looking forward to hearing your suggestions!

You can get the same gloves that Nida gave me by clicking here!

Crochet Tutorial: Beast Costume Gloves

As I make progress on the costumes that I am designing for Nate and myself for Halloween, I was puzzled over how to make a pair of Beast Mitts. I pooled over ideas of what would work, what would be comfortable for an evening of partying with our friends, what would look like a pair of paws with claws? All these questions are answered in this pair of open finger gloves.

beast3

These mitts are not meant for freezing temperature days. Just by appearance, it’s obvious why. These are strictly for costume purpose. However, but omitting the finger/claws you would have a basic pair of fingerless gloves or hand warmers.

I used Red Heart Boutique Fur to cover these paws. You are free to use creative choices for the type of fur you would like to use. You can create a different look by using different types of furs.

The pattern can be adjusted for any size hand. In my video, I created this pair to fit a larger sized man-hand. With easy math, you can make this pattern from child size to an XL hand size. Have fun with this costume/prop accessory. It is perfect for so many designs – wildcats, bears, lions, werewolves, beasts, monsters, etc.

Crochet Tutorial: Cat Paw Hand Warmers with Fur

Bring out your inner “cat-titude” and freak “meowt!” This is the “purrrr-fect” project to make that happen! I am “paws-itive” you will be “feline” “claw-some!!”

As I work my way toward Halloween and my own personal costume, I created these paw fingerless gloves as a piece to one of my best costumes yet! This time of the year always gets my creativity going for fun ideas on ways to economically make a costume with as little as a hook and yarn. Although I made these as part of my Halloween attire, this would be a great project for any animal lover. You can modify these in many ways by changing the color, paw pads and fur! You don’t even need to put the paw prints on them and just have fancy fingerless gloves to give as a gift for anyone on your list!

Again, this is a quick and easy afternoon project! This blog includes the instructional video as well as a handwritten pattern. Be sure to check out the entire blog and make your mitts today!

I’m sure that you will “a-purrr-ove” of “e-furry-thing!” HA!
