The Honey Bee Sunhat is such a simple hat to add to any outfit! Wear it in the garden to keep the sun off your face, or wear it to the apple orchard in the fall! You can spice it up with a fancy ribbon of any color!
I used this hat as part of our Halloween costumes for the Bee Keeper costume, but there are so many different ways you can wear it! Find the written instructions below.

I took the day off from work and filming in the studio to attend an eclipse viewing event here in Central Wisconsin. This was a free community event that was hosted at our local high school. The event coordinators passed out special glasses so everyone could view the eclipse safely.
They had pinhole boxes, telescopes reflecting the eclipse and other viewing devices to make this a pretty spectacular viewing event. There were about 200 people in attendance from our small community which made this even more exciting to share it with others as equally eager as we were.
Central Wisconsin was at its peak of 83% totality at approximately 1:13pm CST. The moon left a small crescent of sun still peeking out from behind it before things began to slowly brighten up again. We did not experience complete darkness, but we did have a dusk-like light and definitely experienced a drop in temperature cooling things by several degrees. I have to admit, as someone who is fascinated by our solar system, astronomy, and space/universe in general, I was a pretty excited to experience this cosmic event. It makes you feel small in such a vast universe.
My dad, who we all know and love for his behind the camera work in our videos, was once again behind the camera during this event as he tried to capture small clips of the various stages of the eclipse.
He was able to capture a couple pretty remarkable photos of it as well.
Since the event at the high school began nearly 2 hours before the actual eclipse would occur, we brought blankets and lawn chairs as well as a picnic lunch to make our viewing party even more fun.
I also brought along my crochet project presently in the works. I am in the process of designing a mesh tunic for under Nate’s Halloween costume. I’m never far away from a project, so it was inevitable that I would pull out my latest project to work on during the time before viewing the solar eclipse!
I have to say, this was an above average viewing event and not one bit boring even if it was not full totality. I loved that the weather cooperated. It was a beautiful sunny 78 degrees Fahrenheit with very little cloud coverage which made visibility pretty neat. I’m happy to say that I lived to experience this in my lifetime as the last one was nearly a dozen years before I was born. It was “totality” worth it! What a memorable day this was!

Can I say I am completely in love with this yarn without making my fiancé jealous? Let’s hope, because I am!
I made this to fit me. I am 5′ 2″ and I generally wear a size Small/Medium. I have given instructions in the Notes Section and in the video tutorial to alter this pattern to make it larger.
Something you may not know about my work process, is that I design my pieces off camera first, perfect the pattern, fix all the quirks, and get all my mistakes ironed out before filming my final piece in my tutorials. I first designed my Spring Sun Mandala Vest pattern using Caron Cakes in the color Macaron. This was my original prototype for testing the pattern. I filmed the video in the Red Heart Yarns Super Saver Ombre that I posted above, but if you are interested in seeing how the Cakes work for this piece, this should give you a pretty good idea! No matter what yarn is used, this piece is sure to be a big hit!

-This project uses 1100 yards of yarn.
-Use a smaller hook to make these smaller

-Weave in all the ends as you go so you don’t have to weave them all in at the very end.
-This Mandala is 43 inches across (112 cm), Arm Holes are 18″ around (46cm), and Shoulders across are 15″ (38cm)
-This project took me approximately 20 hours to complete.
-To make this bigger, you can repeat Round 16 when you get to that point, you can also repeat Round 18 when you get to that point, you can repeat Round 26 when you get to that point, you can repeat Round 28 when you get to that point, and you can repeat Round 31 when you get to that point.
-I used 2 full Caron Cakes, but I was unable to finish the last 2 rounds of the pattern, so I would suggest about 3 Caron Cakes to finish the pattern.

A couple disclaimers before you start: Be sure to check your tension and use the correct size hook for your square. I demonstrate with an H-5.00mm crochet hook in the video tutorial, but you can make yours bigger or smaller by using a bigger or smaller hook. Also, if yours turns out wonky when you are finished, you may need to block this square to make it nice and flat.

I braved the chilly temperature to showcase my latest design for summer. My Mesh Beach Swimsuit Cover-up is here just in time to enjoy sand and surf. I would not recommend heading to the beach quite yet if you live in a climate like mine! My toes have finally started to regain feeling! Haha!! Things will be heating up soon!
Below a closeup photo of the Mesh Beach Swimsuit Cover-up. Made with 100% cotton, this piece can be worn over a swimsuit or as a tunic top. I have paired it over a swimsuit to show you how wonderfully useful this will be for summer at the beach
I’m like a kid in a candy store when it comes to being excited for warm weather and fun in the sun! This cover-up was just the right piece to get me in the mood for summertime! This versatile tunic is not only perfect over swimwear, but it makes a nice summer top that can be worn over a sundress or tank top.
Removing the drawstring belt is optional, to give this piece a new look. The wide boat neck collar is perfect for wearing off the shoulder. Ooh, la, la! Summer, here we come!
Here, I have paired it over a white dress for a more modest fashion tunic.

Row 3: Ch 5 (counts as first DC and Ch 2 sp), *Sk 2 sts, DC in middle DC of shell, Ch 2, sk 2 dc, DC in sc, Repeat from * across, ending with DC in last sc. Turn. (33 DC, 32 Ch 2 sps)
Row 4: Ch 3 (Counts as DC) 2 DC in same st as ch, SC in next DC, *Shell in next DC, SC in next DC, Repeat from * across, ending with 3 DC in last st. Turn.
Row 5: Ch 5, *sk 2 sts, DC in sc, ch 2, sk 2 sts, DC in middle DC of shell, Ch 2, repeat from * Ending with DC in last st. Turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, SC in 1st st, *Shell in next DC, SC in next DC, Repeat from * across, ending with SC in last st, turn.
Rows 7-10: Repeat Rows 3-6 Once (Or as many times as you want, just end your repeat on a row 6 and go onto the next row)
Optional: Change color after row 10
Row 11: Repeat Row 3
Row 12: Ch 5, *DC in next DC, CH 2, repeat from * across Ending with DC in last st.
Rows 13-35: Repeat Row 12 (You can repeat this row until this piece is as long as you want, when your piece is as long as you want, just go on to the next row)
Optional: Change Color after row 35
Row 36: Repeat Row 6
Row 37: Repeat Row 5
Row 38: Repeat Row 4
Row 39: Repeat Row 3
You can keep repeating this pattern to make more shell rows, once you make it as long as you want, you can go onto the next row.
Optional: After row 39, change color
Rows 40-44: Repeat Row 12
You can keep repeating this pattern to make more shell rows, once you make it as long as you want, you can go onto the next row.
Row 45 (LAST ROW): Ch 3, *2DC in next ch 2 sp, DC in next DC, Repeat from * across, ending with DC in 3rd ch of ch 5 from prev. row.
Fasten off with long tail for sewing shoulder.
Assembly Step:
After both panels are made, line them up and sew the shoulders, and both sides closed. Use video tutorial for visual instructions. Once it is all sewn up, turn it inside out and enjoy!!
OPTIONAL BELT:
With larger hook,
Ch 150 or any amount to make a belt. Fasten off and weave through tunic. Tie a bow.
Weave in all ends.
