In an earlier post, I had mentioned that Nate bought me yarn this past Christmas. Some may think, “Well that is a no brainer, she crochets, she loves yarn. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!” Right? But to that, I say this: I thought about this man going through yarn types and brands trying to choose the right ones, the best fibers, deciding on variety without a clue as to what he’s doing, except he was doing it because he loves me. It made my heart skip. The picture of this in my mind was incredibly endearing.

Today’s leaf and floral neck lariat necklace is inspired by some of those skeins of yarn and the love behind them. Leaves are symbolic of life and the red flower symbolizes love. So, it is appropriate that it all comes together in this great creative piece. He truly has woven his way right into my heart giving it life. What better way to show that love than through my work?!

You can make this as a belt, as a bunting, garland. You can customize this piece to your own desire. Make it longer, make it shorter, make it in different colors! The possibilities are endless!

Materials:
-Lion Brand Wool Ease in Oxford Grey
-Naturally Caron Country in Burgundy
-Bead or button for embellishment
-Size G6-4.25mm Crochet Hook
-Yarn Needle
-Scissors

NOTES:
-You may use any size thread and any size hook to make this. Just know that it will turn out larger or smaller for the leaves.

Ch: chain
St(s): Stitch(es)
Sl st: slip stitch
SC: Single Crochet
DC: Double Crochet

Lariat
1st Leaf:
Ch 11,
SC in 2nd ch from hook, HDC in next, DC in next, DC in next, TR in next, TR in next, DC in next, DC in next, HDC in next, SC in next, ch 2, SC in same st as last sc, Turn work upside down, HDC in next, DC in next, DC in next, TR in next, TR in next, DC in next, DC in next, HDC in next, SC in last. Sl st to first sc of round

Chain an amount that you would like to be between your leaves (I chained 8)

2nd leaf and the rest of them will be as follows:
Ch 11
SC in 2nd ch from hook, HDC in next, DC in next, DC in next, TR in next, TR in next, DC in next, DC in next, HDC in next, SC in next, ch 2, SC in same st as last sc, Turn work upside down, HDC in next, DC in next, DC in next, TR in next, TR in next, DC in next, DC in next, HDC in next, SC in last. Sl st to first sc of round, sl st in each of the next 10 sts, sl st to the chain, then chain an amount that you would like between your leaves.

Here is how I made my Lariat:

Leaf
Ch 8

(Continue this pattern until you have 20 leaves–or as many leaves as you want)
When making your last leaf, sl st along the stitches on the side of the leaf and then fasten off. See video tutorial for visual instructions.

Flower:
Rnd 1: Ch 3 and work 17 hdc into the 3rd ch from hook, join with a sl st to ch up 2. (18 hdc)

Rnd 2: *ch 3, skip the next hdc, sl st in next hdc*, repeat from * around, sl st to first ch 3 sp to join (9 spaces made)

Rnd 3: You’ll be working a petal into each ch 3 space from round 2. ch 1, (sc, hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc) into each ch 3 space around (9 petals made) Fasten off and weave in end.

Round 4: In this round, make sure you are slip stitching “around” the hdc from Round 1. (See video tutorial for visual instructions). ch 3, skip 2 hdc, sl st around the next stitch in Round 1, *ch 3, skip 2 hdc, sl st around next hdc, repeat from * around, slip stitch to beginning ch 3 sp to join (6 spaces made)

Round 5: Repeat Round 3 (you’ll be making a total of 6 petals this time), sl st to ch 3 sp at the beginning to join, fasten off with long tail for sewing. Sew bead/button to center of flower and sew to lariat
