FREE Crochet Photo Tutorial: Have A Heart Flip Flops

FREE Crochet Photo Tutorial: Have A Heart Flip Flops

I have “walked” through these punny patterns year after year. I try to “take steps” to bring a variety of fun projects and not “step on any toes” when making these. My Have A Heart Flip Flops are the perfect project to “heel” many of us from these long winter blues! I can’t be the “sole” individual that is getting a bit of cabin fever!? This winter has been “laced” with so much time to crochet, but it honestly is starting to consume my “sole!” Hopefully, a few of these projects will have you falling “head over heels” and eager to make some! This one is a “shoe-in” for one of the easiest! Just take it “one step at a time.” While you are working on this next punny project photo-tutorial, I am heading out for some “shoe-shi” with my “sole-mate!” Ok, I will stop here before I insert my “foot in mouth” any further! Ha!!

First, gather your supplies:
Flip Flops, Size H-5.00mm crochet hook, Scissors, Yarn needle, and some yarn.

Then make a slip knot and attach that loop to your hook. Work around the strap of the flip flop as you see in the photos below. Just make a single crochet stitch around the strap.

When you work around the toe separator in the sandal, just go from one side of that post to the other side. You do not have to work around that post at all.

When you are ready to fasten off, just chain 1, cut your yarn, and sew in your end.

You can make a flower or a heart or leave it plain. It’s totally up to you!

Here’s the pattern for the heart I added to my flip flop:

Heart: (Optional)

Round 1: Ch 3, 12 DC in 3rd Ch from hook, sl st to first st. (12)

Round 2: Ch 1, dc in the same stitch. [tr, tr, htr] in next st, [dc, hdc] in next st, 2 sc in next 2 sts, [hdc, dc, ch1] in next st, [dc, hdc] in next st, 2 SC in next 2 sts, [hdc, dc] in next st, [htr, tr, tr] in next st, [dc, ch1] in last st, st sl in the same stitch. Fasten off with a long tail for sewing.

Sew heart to flip flop. (embellish with a button if you’d like!)

Enjoy!!

Crochet Tutorial: Fortune Cookie

Crochet Tutorial: Fortune Cookie

If I had a nickel for every pun I had to come up with, I would have plenty of *dough* and be worth a *fortune*! I’ve had pretty *good luck* these past two weeks, I would say. I am feeling like a smart *cookie* coming up with these clever captions! Some may think I am a bit of a *weir-dough* to keep coming up with puns for so long, but it is just the way the *cookie crumbles*! I do it every year and it’s become my thing. Besides, I do it for Nate. Because together, we are a *batch* made in heaven and we are very *fortunate* to have that! Now I better get to writing the pattern and post the blog for the Fortune Cookie Amigurumi before I *delete all my cookies* and have to start all over! I’m a *tough cookie* and could do that, but I wouldn’t want to! (Scroll down for written instructions)

Punny Valentine’s: “Love” a Good Pun

Punny Valentine’s: “Love” a Good Pun

The tradition continues with my annual Punny Valentine’s. Each year, I create these silly sentiments using crochet and puns. I try to be as creative and amusing as possible. I do, however, have to match a pun to something I can create using my crochet magic. It is NOT easy, let me tell you, this blog showcases my collection from 2017. You can check out 2016’s Punny Valentine’s here! Do you have a fun pun to share? Let me know in the comments section. Share a possible pun that might show up in my 2018 Punny Valentine Series! ~Nadia

Below is a list of some Punny Valentine’s. Click on the link next to their date or click the photo to be taken to its video tutorial and written pattern! Enjoy!!

February 1st: Two Peas in a Pod
My first of 14 Valentine’s Day puns begins with these Two Peas In A Pod. Every day I’m “brussel-in” to make these puns! It makes me very “hap-pea!” So, if you “carrot” all, “peas” give these puns a chance. I’m pretty sure that it will “lettuce” have a few good laughs together! This is going to be so much “pun!”

February 2nd: Volcano Bag
Day 2 of our Valentine’s Day puns and things are really “heating” up. I don’t mean to “int-erupt” your day, but you should know how much I “lava” this silliness, so much so, that I could just “burst!”

February 3rd: Leaf Appliqué
I know you are “falling” for some of these “unbe-leaf-ably” silly puns. It helps to create good “chemis-tree” between us when we can “photo-sympathize” with how lame they can become. I know it’s “over-ELM-ing,” but we can still laugh together. I hope it’s “OAK-kay” that I continue to post until I get “stumped.” Even then I won’t “leaf” you “hanging” as I “branch” out and try to be more punny!

February 4th: Mouse and Cheese Amigurumi
This may be my “cheesiest” pun yet. It’s “nacho” fault if these puns get so “stinky” you roll your eyes when I say life is “cheddar” when we’re together. When I am with you, I don’t feel “aged” or “bleu.” I do have to stay “sharp” to keep up these punny lines. Otherwise, it could look “swiss-picious” if I am laughing at these “prov-ALONE.” So, like I said, we are really “gouda” together so please, will you “brie” mine? It would be “mice” if your answer was “YES, cheese!”

February 5th: Mushroom Amigurumi
You may think that making up puns is no “truffle” at all. But, Holy “Shiitake,” it’s not easy!! I “moss” say that I have really taken a “lichen” to this. At least I have “morel” support from everyone. You give me “mush-room” to be creative, so I can “button” down and get these done! Once I get a good pun figured out, I feel like the “porto-bell-o” of the ball! I appreciate your encouragement because that’s what friends are “spore.”

February 6th: Avocado Amigurumi
“Bravo-cado” on sharing these puns everyone! I have laughed a lot and said, “You’ve “guac” to be kidding me,” several times! Some responses are “hard-core” and “avo-control!” There were a few “guac-ward” moments. I know, I tend be go too far that I can end up in the “pits” with these puns. It seems so wrong but feels so “ripe,” so keep it up, and “guac” my world with your creativity!

February 7th: Corn Amigurumi
I hope you are enjoying these “corny” puns! I’m “stalking” the Internet with “corn-viction” to help “plant” my mind with ideas this Valentine’s Day. Each pun is “butter” than the last. I come “ear” to find creativity. I search online for a “kernel” of truth and a pun that’s “a-peel-ing.” When I find it, I say “shucks” this is “sweet!” I’ve had to “weed” through a lot of “crop” to come up with all these “a-maize-ing” puns, but you’re worth it! After you finish “plowing” through the amount of “ridicul-husk”puns in this caption, I hope the rest of your day is filled with” uni-corns” and rainbows!

February 8th: Tomato Amigurumi
Trying to think of new and clever puns each day is making me feel a bit “plum” crazy. I tend to think “what’s “to-mato” with you, Nadia? You need to “ketchup” and figure these all out!” I’m trying to keep these upbeat and “juice” the cutest play on words, but sometimes it can become a bit “dicey.” I want to say thank you “cherry” much for “picking” up on my sense of humor and playing along with my “fruit-iness!”

February 9th: Bumble Bee Amigurumi
There has “bee-n” a lot of “buzz” going around about these puns. “Honey,” I’m trying to always “beehive” to “bee” sure my jokes don’t “sting.” I try to “bee” positive and “comb” through many ideas before they “stick.” Not all of my puns are “flower-y” or silly. I have “pollen” for a few lame ones. I agree that a couple were a bit “un-bee-lievable.” I always appreciate your feedback and “raw honey-sty.” Your encouragement makes me feel like a “Queen.” I’m trying to stay “hummm-ble, ” so I will stop “drone-ing” on and on, but before I go, I should say, I think you all are the “bees knees!” *insert cringy eyerolls here* HAHA!

Shop Red Heart, America's Favorite Yarn

February 10th: String of Hearts Cup Cozy
Rise and shine, it’s a “brew-tiful” day! Words can’t “espresso” how much you “bean” to me. You always stay “grounded” and work at “mocha” me happy. Even when I have a “latte” on my mind, you are there to give me your sweet “sugar.” Every day, you’re ready to face the daily “grind.” Even if each day feels like a “deja brew,” you never get “heated” and say “I don’t give a “frapp,”” or “What’s “Sumatra” with my life?” Instead, you’re always “perky” and “tea-riffic!” So, better “latte” than never, I want you to know that you’re more than an Average “Joe.” You’re just my “cup of tea.”

February 11th: Fish Amigurumi
We are “bass-ically” coming to the end of our Valentine’s puns. I “fish” we had more time because I’m having so much “fin!” I have a “boat-load” of material. I’m not being “koi” about it. With only a few days left, I’m not about to “swimmer” down. Instead, I’m over here, “kraken” myself up! I “sardine-ly” try to keep everyone laughing. You know I’m not doing this just for the “halibut.” These puns are an annual event. You may wonder, “”Water” you doing these for, Nadia?” My answer is, “These puns are a big “tank” you for being in my life!” I have always said, “You are my “ray” of sunshine.” You make me want to “Carp-e” Diem, and not “flounder” around anymore. There’s nothing “fishy” about this. My “sole” is truly in making up these puns!

February 12th: Scientist Amigurumi
I “periodically” get inspiration from everyday things for these crochet love notes. I get a “sine” that an idea might work, and then I start to “planet.” Some of these are “sodium” funny, I have slapped my “neon” a couple of occasions! The “gravity” to make these puns epic is “multiplied” by the fact that I’m running out of “time.” I’m trying to finish them at the “speed of light.” I have plenty of “energy” to keep these going for a couple more days! No “matter” what, through everything, you know my love for this is “constant,” but right now, I’m going to take a break and have a piece of “Pi.”

February 13th: Gnome Amigurumi
I “gnome” that this series is almost done. I hope these have brought some “magic” to your life. I’ve been “toad” that I make up some pretty good ones! I have been “trolling” through some keywords to pun this caption to make sure it’s “elfin'” hilarious. Some have been so funny, I hope no one wet their “plants” reading these! I’m being “fairy” careful to make sure they’re full of fun and “fantasy.” I have “pixie-d” some great projects to make some special Valentine’s ideas to help your love “grow.” This cute Gnome would be perfect for a “garden party” accent!

February 14th: Lemons to Lemonade Pillow
I have always had a “zest” for life, and “lime” so grateful to be able to do what I love. For the past 2 weeks, my creative “juices” have been going in high gear to bring you this series of puns leading up to Valentine’s Day. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!! At times, I may have blurred the “limes” between humorous and pushing too far. I’m sure some were a bit “sour” and others made you “peel” with laughter. Today’s pun is no exception. This pillow is “juice” the cutest way to end our series and allows me to “ex-press” how much all this means to me. I do this for YOU! I plan to “wedge” this under me to provide something to “curdle” up with once my procedure and biopsies are over. I’m so lucky to have my “main squeeze” with me during these tests! My life is made up of many “making lemonade” moments. Any way you “slice” it, was a perfect way to bring this series to a close. So, time to “pucker up” and get this procedure done! I will post the blog for this pillow as soon as I’m a bit more “fresh.” Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone! Sending you all my love!!

We’re tying the knot with yarn!

On March 4th, 2017, while traveling through Europe, Nate surprised me with a spontaneous proposal in the Amsterdam Schipol Airport. As we were heading to the bathrooms (haha!) he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!

He was shaking, I was shaking, I was crying, and of course, I said YES! We’ve been talking about it for some time now and all the plans we were making were leading to this exciting event.

It was very fitting that we had this private moment that included the two of us, my brother and my mom who was able to capture these lovely photos.

No matter how tired we were from all the traveling, our joy carried us through our 13 hour layover where we ventured into Amsterdam city for a celebration dinner.

Upon arrival back to the United States, and of course after letting my close friends and family know this exciting news, we started making immediate plans for our wedding.

We are looking ahead and planning an early 2018 wedding celebration. We recently had some engagement photos taken and made our formal announcement on our personal social media accounts. We now wish to share it with all the YARNutopians!

Photo credit: Fuad Azmat (My daddy!)

As we journey ahead in the next year planning our event, we are excited to tie in elements of our cultures and OF COURSE, elements of crochet! I am going a different route on my dress, as many have already asked me if I was going to crochet my wedding gown, but I am absolutely 100% going to incorporate other small details of crochet for this special day.

I’m excited to share this year-long journey with my amazing YARNutopia family and I will be creating tutorials of fun elements that I plan to use on the big day!

I am excited to hear suggestions on crochet projects that you have used for your special events! I’m always open to hearing, so please feel free to share your ideas!! This will be a fun way to share this together!

Please join us in sharing our joy and happiness as we move onto this new and exciting chapter of our lives!

Love,
Nadia and Nate

Crochet Tutorial: Lemons to Lemonade Pillow

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone! Sending you all my love!! I also want to say a special Happy Valentine’s Day to my Nate for taking the day off work to be with me today.

Crochet Tutorial: Gnome Amigurumi

Crochet Tutorial: Gnome Amigurumi

I “gnome” that this series is almost done. I hope these have brought some “magic” to your life. I’ve been “toad” that I make up some pretty good ones! I have been “trolling” through some keywords to pun this caption to make sure it’s “elfin'” hilarious. Some have been so funny, I hope no one wet their “plants” reading these! I’m being “fairy” careful to make sure they’re full of fun and “fantasy.” I have “pixie-d” some great projects to make some special Valentine’s ideas to help your love “grow.” This cute Gnome would be perfect for a “garden party” accent!

Crochet Tutorial: Scientist Amigurumi

Crochet Tutorial: Scientist Amigurumi

Crochet Tutorial: String of Hearts Cup Cozy

Crochet Tutorial: String of Hearts Cup Cozy

Crochet Tutorial: Bumble Bee Amigurumi

Crochet Tutorial: Corn Amigurumi

Crochet Tutorial: Mushroom Amigurumi

You may think that making up puns is no “truffle” at all. But, Holy “Shiitake,” it’s not easy!! I “moss” say that I have really taken a “lichen” to this. At least I have “morel” support from everyone. You give me “mush-room” to be creative, so I can “button” down and get these done! Once I get a good pun figured out, I feel like the “porto-bell-o” of the ball! I appreciate your encouragement because that’s what friends are “spore.”

Crochet Tutorial: Leaf Applique

I know you are “falling” for some of these “unbe-leaf-ably” silly puns. It helps to create good “chemis-tree” between us when we can “photo-sympathize” with how lame they can become. I know it’s “over-ELM-ing,” but we can still laugh together. I hope it’s “OAK-kay” that I continue to post until I get “stumped.” Even then I won’t “leaf” you “hanging” as I “branch” out and try to be more punny!

Crochet Tutorial: Two Peas in a Pod

Crochet Tutorial: Two Peas in a Pod

My first of 14 Valentine’s Day puns begins with these Two Peas In A Pod. Every day I’m “brussel-in” to make these puns! It makes me very “hap-pea!” So, if you “carrot” all, “peas” give these puns a chance. I’m pretty sure that it will “lettuce” have a few good laughs together! This is going to be so much “pun!”

My Punny Valentine!

I am a pun extraordinaire. (It should go on my resumé) I love a good pun, I like throwing down a good pun, and I think puns are fun! It isn’t unusual that when the opportunity presents itself, I jump on it and go a little overboard!

A couple years ago, I started a series of Valentine’s Day puns. I would create a crocheted item and come up with a clever tagline that associates with that item. 2016’s Valentine’s Day is no exception. This blog is 14 days of punny love overload. It’s perfect for the crochet lover and the Valentine in your life! ♥

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I LOVE love! Any time I get the chance to spread a little love, I’m going to be sure to sprinkle that everywhere! I hope you enjoy these creative puns! Be sure to share them with the ones you love! I will be adding a new pun each day until Valentine’s Day. Be sure to check back!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Nate, this blog is dedicated to you. ♥

February 2nd, 2016: I am “nacho” sure if you are going to like this one. I know you don’t like people “jalapeño” business. However, since I love puns from my head “tomatoes,” I figured this one would be the perfect way to “lettuce” show some more Valentine’s Day love and get more people to “taco” ’bout them. Hopefully, this didn’t go too far and our friendship can continue to go “onion” on… HA!!

February 4th, 2016: I don’t have much “dough,” so this is my humble gift for you. It may sound a little “cheesy.” I might fumble the “delivery,” but no matter how you “slice” it, I only have “pies” for you. There’s no “topping” that! ♥

February 5th, 2016: I am trying not to make a “stink,” but it’s time to take the “plunge” “toilet” you know that I love you with all of my “fart.” When I “let it all out” and get “on a roll” I start to get so “flushed” because it “poops” me out thinking about how much energy it takes to “squeeze” out these puns! I hope you do NOT have a “crappy” Friday and are enjoying this silly “potty” talk. ♥

February 6th, 2015: You might say, ‘you “gato” be “kitten” me right “meow,” Nadia! These puns are becoming so bad, it’s almost “cat”astrophic!’ I’m not “lion” when I say making puns is “paw”some! Sometimes, I laugh so hard, I “puma” pants! HAHA!! My life would be “claw”ful without puns, “fur”real!! But I love you so much, I would move “meow”tains for you, so I’m just going to keep going – but if I go to “fur,” you can say get “meow”ta here!

February 7th, 2016: Wake the “fudge” up everyone! Today’s pun is going to be easy like “sundae” morning! So, here’s the “scoop.” Today I’m breaking my “cone” of silence to declare that I love you “cherry” much. I feel “waffle” when you’re not around because I know we are “mint” to be together. This “sweet” pun is “sprinkled” with all my love to make sure that you know that my heart “melts” just for you.

February 8th, 2016: I’m not “squidding” when I say I love a good joke, so here goes: How many tickles does it take to make an “octopus” laugh? Ten-tickles! HAHAHA!!! Get it? “Tentacles!” I’m not “fishing” for a compliment, but whaddya “ink” of my sense of humor? All day long, Valentine, you “octopi” my thoughts. I’m such a “sucker” for you, I am “sea”rious about your love, and I’m totally “hooked.” Even right now, I want you in my “arms” so we can “cuttle.”

February 9th, 2016
: This is an “eggs”pression of my love. I’m not sure if I have a “talon”t for “bird” puns because it can be a “bird”en to keep coming up with so many ideas. So, I’m just going to “wing” it. For our special Valentine’s Day, will you meet me for coffee at the “Nest”café? I promise it won’t be “hawk”ward and no “fowl” play. Instead, I will give you the red carpet “tweet”ment. It might get “emu”tional “wren” this special day occurs, because I can guarantee it will be “egg”cellent! It might get a little lovey “dove”y, but I’m sure you will have a very “pheasant” time, and it will “fly” by! Phew! This “bird” pun turned out so well, I might just have to “Tweet” it!

February 10th, 2016: I’m “tilling” you like it is. I’m ready to drop some mad “beets!” Let’s “dew” it!
I’ll love you “till” my heart stops “beet”ing.
Like a “moss,” this bears re”peat”ing.
I “mud”dled through life before you,
always “garden” my heart like “weed”o.
The latest “dirt” can “tend” to annoy,
but Imma sayin’ you’re the “root” of my joy.
I hope this “plants” a “seed” in your heart,
to know I “dig” you and hate to be apart.
“Lettuce” “turnip” the volume on our love,
I’m having so much fun,
because every day I’m “shoveling…” (“shoveling”) out these puns!

February 11th, 2016: Today is “Thor”sday. It’s been “tough” being apart all week. I “myth” you very much. I’ve been “helmet” on coming up with great puns, but of “Norse” the time has come to keep it “Loki” and let you know I am really “Viking” everything about our relation”ship!”

: I don’t want to burst your “bubble,” but in the “pecking” order of puns, this one isn’t quite fitting the “bill.” I have been up since the “quack” of dawn trying to think of a “soap”er duper idea for this Valentine’s post. All of them just sound “Daffy.” I won’t “duck” my responsibility because inside every determined heart, “soap rings” eternal, and all these puns are a way to “shower” you with my love! “Lather” is always the best medicine, so I’m going with this series of love notes and hope they go over “swimmingly.” “Waddle” I do if you don’t like it? I guess I’ll find out when you get “foam” sweet “foam.”

February 13th, 2016: In the words of Iggy Azalea, “First things first, ‘Amaryllis.'” So I will begin this pun by saying that everyone can tell that our love has truly “blossomed.” It has taken off on the “wings” of love. I know I have really “pollen” for you because whenever I think of you, I get “butterflies” in my stomach. I really hope this Valentine’s Day is “fly” filled with “butterfly” kisses and “ladybug” hugs. You always make me feel like I’m wrapped in a “cocoon” of your love. I “larva” you so much!! Oops-a-“daisy,” that last pun may have “flown” too far.

February 14th, 2016: Nate loves a good horror movie, I love crochet and “Poe”try, and we both love to love. I hope I’ve captured the essence of that in this last Valentine pun.

As these punny posts come to the end, I’ve got to “hand” it to you, you’ve definitely got “heart.” I hope you didn’t think they were “tachy.” I’ve tried to “organ”ize them so they always make sense. People might think that I’m so crazy about you that “aorta” be locked up, but you have the “key to my heart.” Sometimes I wondered if “antibody” was out there who understood me, and there you were. You “muscle”d your way into my “life.” In the “pulmonary” start of our relationship, I might have told you “A-fib” or two about how I felt. I didn’t need a “ventricle”oquist to speak for me. I was truly “pumped” about meeting you! “O,” I’m “positive” I won’t ever “bypass” telling you how I feel again. I sug”chest” we always express how we feel. I hope I don’t ever “skip a beat” when it comes to loving you. I promise to “pace” myself and not take our love in “vein.” ♥ Nadia
