Here are all the materials you will need:

(Click on the links below to get your supplies online)

4 different colors of worsted weight (Size 4 medium) yarn

I used WeCrochet’s Brava yarn with these colors

-1 skein of Caution for Part 1
-1 skein of Marina for part 2
-2 Skeins of Asphalt Heather for Part 3
-2 skeins of Fairytale for Part 4 and 5
-4.0mm hook (Get the crochet hook I used here)
Scissors
Measuring Tape
Tapestry Needle

Special Notes:

To follow this pattern, you will need general and beginner-friendly knowledge of basic crochet stitches. Video tutorials will be provided for every part

GAUGE is NOT important, BUT measurements will be! PLEASE MEASURE!

This bag is approximately 16 inches wide and 12 inches tall. It is very spacious!

Special stitches:
Ch(s): chain(s)
St(s): Stitch(es)
Sl st: slip stitch
SK: Skip
WS: Wrong Side (Back of square)
RS: Right Side (Front of Square
SC: Single Crochet
DC: Double Crochet
FPDC: Front Post Double Crochet
BPDC: Back Post Double Crochet
ATC: Alternate Turning Chain (if you cannot do this, simply Chain 3, and that should be sufficient)

Here’s the pattern!!

Triangle #1

(Click the image above to go to the video tutorial)

This part of the bag was designed and made by Nicki. She filmed a tutorial which you can find HERE.

**Make 6 Triangles**

Start with a color you only have ONE skein of.

I picked Caution Yellow (Nicki’s image above shows color Freesia)

Each triangle has the dimensions 7.5 x 5.5 (if stretched it could also be 6 inches). Try to make sure your measurements match that.

The triangle is made in rows and finished off with 1 row (just one edge) of single crochet stitches. All atc’s are the height of a tr (so 3 stacked sc’s) which are counted as a stitch.

Row 1: 1 atc, 3 dc, 1 tr, 3 dc, 1 tr, turn, close the magic ring

Row 2: [1 atc, 2 dc] all on top of the tr from the previous row, 1 dc on top of each dc from the previous row, until you reach the tr from previous row, place [2 dc’s, 1 tr, 2 dc’s] on top of the tr from previous row, 1 dc on top of each dc from the previous row, until you reach the last stitch, place [2 dc’s and 1 tr] on top of that last stitch, turn

Rows 3 – 5: repeat R2

Once you have finished the last row, simply crochet evenly 24 sc’s across the long side of the triangle (where the edges of the rows are).

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Triangle #2

(Click the image above to go to the video tutorial)

This part of the bag was designed by me, Nadia, from YARNutopia. I filmed a video tutorial which you can find HERE.

Make 6 Triangles

Use a color that you have ONE skein of

I picked Marina

Each triangle has the dimensions 7.5 (long side) x 5.5 (both short sides)  (if stretched it could also be 6 inches). Try to make sure your measurements match that.

Start with a Magic Ring (or Ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring)

Row 1: Ch 1, [SC, Ch 2, SC] into Ring, Ch 1, Turn.

Row 2: SC in first SC, Ch 1, [SC, Ch 2, SC] in ch 2 sp, Ch 1, SC in last st, Ch 1, Turn.

Row 3: SC in first st, Ch 1, SC in next Ch 1 Sp, Ch 1, [SC, Ch 2, SC] in Ch 2 sp, Ch 1, SC in next Ch 1 sp, Ch 1, SC in last st, Ch 1, Turn.

Row 4: SC in first st, *Ch 1, SC in next ch sp, repeat from * until Ch 2 sp, Ch 1, [SC, Ch 2, SC] in ch 2 sp, **Ch 1, SC in next ch 1 sp, repeat from ** until last st, Ch 1, and SC in last St. Ch 1, Turn.

Rows 5-14: Repeat Row 4
when your triangle is big enough, SC along the LONG side of your triangle 24 sts evenly. Fasten off and weave in all your ends.

Base of the Tote Bag

(Click the image above to go to the video tutorial)

This part of the bag was designed and made by Nicki. She filmed a tutorial which you can find HERE

**Make 1 rectangle**

Crochet with a color you have TWO skeins of. But you will likely use only one of the skeins for this rectangle. Nicki used the color Mulberry in the photo above, I used  Asphalt Heather for mine.

The rectangle needs to measure 7.5 x 15 inches at the end.

Remember, measurement is more important than row or stitch count!

Ch 53

Row 1: starting from the 2nd ch, 1 thermal stitch in each ch, turn

Rows 2-46: ch 1, 1 thermal stitch in each st, turn

*remember that you need to count each side to know the full number of rows

*If you need to do more or less rows to get the measurement correctly, then do that.

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Square Pattern

(Click the image above to go to the video tutorial)

This part of the bag was designed by me, Nadia, from YARNutopia. I filmed a video tutorial which you can find HERE.

**Make 6 squares**

Crochet with a color you only have TWO of (not the same as the rectangle).

I used the color Fairy Tale (used a little more than 1 skein). The squares need to measure 5.5 x 5.5 inches at the end.

Magic ring or Ch 4, Sl st to first ch to form a ring.

(RS) Rnd 1: Ch up 3 (Counts as DC), 2 DC into ring, [Ch 2, 3 DC into ring] 3 times, Ch 2, sl st to beg ch up 3 st, ch 1, do NOT turn.

(RS) Rnd 2: FPDC on first st, *DC in next, FPDC on next, [2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC] in corner, FPDC on next st, repeat from * around, ending with corner sts, Sl st to first FPDC, ch 1, TURN.

(WS) Rnd 3: DC in same st you sl st’d into, [BPDC on next st, DC in next st] until corner, *[2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC] in corner, [DC in next st, BPDC on next st] until corner, repeat from * around, ending with BPDC on last st, Sl st to 1st DC. Ch 1. Do NOT turn.

(WS) Rnd 4: BPDC on same st you sl st’d to, [DC on next st, BPDC on next st] until corner, *[2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC] in corner, [BPDC on next st, DC on next st] until next corner, repeat from * around, ending with DC in last st, Sl st to 1st BPDC, ch 1, turn. (if your square is large enough at this point, just skip round 5 and work a single crochet round like round 6 – just be sure to SC around while looking at the RS of your work)

(RS) Rnd 5: DC in same st you sl st’d into, [FPDC on next st, DC in next st] until corner, *[2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC] in corner, [DC in next st, FPDC on next st] until next corner, Repeat from * around, ending with FPDC on last st, sl st to 1st DC, ch 1, do NOT turn.

(RS) Rnd 6: SC around entire square putting [2 sc, Ch 2, 2 SC] in each corner, sl st to first SC. Fasten off. Weave in all your ends.

Assembly and Straps:

(Click the image above to go to the video tutorial)

This part of the bag was designed by me, Nadia, from YARNutopia. I filmed a video tutorial which you can find HERE.

If you have any confusion or difficulty with reading this pattern, please watch the video tutorial to have visual instructions.

**Make 2 Straps**

Start with a long strand of yarn for sewing before making your slip knot.

Round 1: Ch 12 (or any number that is double the width of the strap you would like), SC in the first ch to form a ring and continue to SC around the whole chain (12)

Work in continuous rounds

Rnds 2-50: SC in each st around
(you can make your strap shorter by doing less rounds or longer by doing more rounds depending on your liking)

Attaching the triangles, squares, and rectangle:
Using your rectangle as the base, you will sew that on last.
Line up your squares as diamonds and place the triangles with their short sides touching the squares and their long sides facing out. (See video tutorial for visual instructions)

Using the Single Crochet method, Single crochet your pieces together in a zig-zag direction. When all your squares and triangles are attached, line up the rectangle to the bottom and single crochet around the whole piece attaching it to your triangles.

Top Brim: Single crochet around the whole top of the bag, Continue to SC around the top of the bag until your height is what you want the bag to be. I did 10 rounds around the top of the bag.

Sew your straps on the inside of the bag for a more sturdy hold.

Add a button and a loop to clasp onto the button (optional)

FREE Crochet Video Tutorial: Large Basket using Chunky Yarn

FREE Crochet Video Tutorial: Large Basket using Chunky Yarn

Sometimes things don’t go the way we expect and we have to improvise. Which is exactly what I had to do for this beautiful Chunky Basket. This is my latest project for the Funky with Chunky yarn event! Using Bernat Maker Big Yarn I created this very practical, very sturdy basket that is perfect for so much around the house. Great for storage, toys, organization, towels, you name it, one or more of these baskets will come in handy and look stylish, too!! I know for my house, this basket will be great for storing either yarn or Nasir’s toys. With Easter around the corner and the ‘safer at home’ quarantine ordinance in place, this would make a great kids basket. I am sure we will get a lot of use out of this home accessory. Be sure to follow along in today’s video tutorial or written pattern to make your own. Don’t have this yarn? Use tee shirt yarn or any variation of chunky yarn that’s size 5 to create this piece.

This video was not filmed in typical YARNutopia fashion. Because of the latest mandates imposed by the Governor regarding Safer At Home policies. My parents will be unable to travel. Therefore, this was filmed by yours truly. Enjoy!

Let’s Play A Game!

Let’s Play A Game!

Below is a fun checklist of things found in a yarn bag! We carry our lives around in our totes and this game gives points for all the things we can find in there! Take a moment to go through your bags and tally your points for this activity. What is the craziest thing you have in your bag today?? How many points did you get??

Here’s My Score: 148 Points!

This activity was prompted because I was cleaning up my bag and found some packets of hot sauce and a diaper in my yarn tote! LOL I realized that I can’t be the only one who has this problem. I remembered playing a “What’s In Your Bag?” game at a bridal shower some time ago, and decided to make a game out of this to share with all of you!

A Precious Miracle

A Precious Miracle

Disclaimer: This blog contains sensitive pregnancy photos. I ask everyone to be respectful and any negative comments will be deleted. It took a lot for me to be vulnerable to share these images. With my health history, I wanted to be as transparent and open as possible with this miraculous pregnancy.

Many of you already have been following my journey and know that my health history has been plagued with illness, numerous surgeries, and plenty of setbacks. I had my colon removed in 2008 because my Crohn’s disease was so progressive. Doctors, worried about the dangerous potential of colon cancer and with fast deterioration of my colon, removed it to save my life. That journey was wrought with so many setbacks and ongoing severe illness. Chemotherapy, biologic treatments, thousands of procedures, multiple ostomies, hospitalizations, and repeated surgery had severely impacted the quality of life I was living in my late teens into my 20s. Most of my dreams were put on hold just to survive.

The one dream I held onto and hoped for was to one day be a mother. Doctors could never give a definitive answer as to whether or not pregnancy could even be possible. It was always a “wait and see” possibility. Without my large intestine or parts of my small intestine, even carrying a baby to term was a huge risk. And, it has been. This miraculous pregnancy has been filled with many issues, illness related problems, and so much worry. Yet, this sweet little boy growing inside me is a fighter. Just like me.

That is why, as we came closer to my due date, I dreamed of having pregnancy photos taken to mark this extraordinary time in our lives.

My colo-rectal surgeon told me last week, despite all the complications, try to enjoy this. “Enjoy being pregnant, Nadia.” She said, “Time goes so fast, we forget these moments. Try to remember how exciting it is to feel him moving…” And it is! This is so true! I have to appreciate everything I am going through to bring him here, and I love him so much that I don’t care how much I have to endure. This is temporary and so worth it.

Next week, I stop the last of my medications needed to keep my disease in remission, so our baby has the best chance and can be his strongest at birth. That part is very unsettling because I don’t know what my body will do without those medications. I am hoping that the last dose will sustain me through the final weeks until delivery and beyond. With that in mind, I decided now was the best time to do these photos. While I felt as good as I can expect to feel, I wanted to capture the power of this moment and the profound feelings of this health and pregnancy journey. I channeled my inner “life-giving goddess” for these powerful images!

I want to thank my mom and dad for their help in bringing my vision to life through these photos, and a huge thank you to Nate for being the most amazing husband and best friend on this journey. I couldn’t have done this without him..obviously..haha!!

“Life reveals her beauty one precious miracle at a time.” ~Flavia

Enjoy the photos.

~Nadia

Summer is here and the kids are home all day long! What better way to bring in the summer than with great activities that don’t require the TV or any electronic devices.

Do you have a roadtrip planned? How about a day at the beach? Camping anyone? No matter where you go, even if it is just outside to your back yard, this totable Tic-Tac-Toe game board will promise loads of entertainment for all ages. Perfect for around the campfire when you are hanging out with the kids, perfect to pull out at the beach for some fun in the sand, perfect for picnics where you can open this up for some competition across the picnic table. There is nothing like an old fashioned game of Tic-Tac-Toe to bring on a some competitive spirit!

This is the perfect solution to long boring “I don’t have anything to do” blues! This game board easily cinches up into a bag or satchel and stores all the game pieces. Open it up and you are ready to play. Make up rules, make competitions, make point goals to claim a winner! First person to get 25 Tic-Tac-Toes takes the prize!! Whatever way you play, it is sure to provide lots of old school fun without relying on modern technology to fill those hours.

This project is a great stash buster for using up that extra yarn. It also would be a nice project to make in cotton for all-weather, all-terrain play. I would also suggest that you can put velcro on the back of the X’s and O’s as well as the squares to provide more stability. Make the O’s in one team color, the X’s in a rival color and make this a sport related rivalry game! The possibilities are endless! There are so many options with this game board!

Get yours started today and watch how much fun this pattern will provide! Follow along with my step by step tutorial and written pattern for year round enjoyment!

Punny Valentine’s: “Love” a Good Pun

Punny Valentine’s: “Love” a Good Pun

The tradition continues with my annual Punny Valentine’s. Each year, I create these silly sentiments using crochet and puns. I try to be as creative and amusing as possible. I do, however, have to match a pun to something I can create using my crochet magic. It is NOT easy, let me tell you, this blog showcases my collection from 2017. You can check out 2016’s Punny Valentine’s here! Do you have a fun pun to share? Let me know in the comments section. Share a possible pun that might show up in my 2018 Punny Valentine Series! ~Nadia

Below is a list of some Punny Valentine’s. Click on the link next to their date or click the photo to be taken to its video tutorial and written pattern! Enjoy!!

February 1st: Two Peas in a Pod
My first of 14 Valentine’s Day puns begins with these Two Peas In A Pod. Every day I’m “brussel-in” to make these puns! It makes me very “hap-pea!” So, if you “carrot” all, “peas” give these puns a chance. I’m pretty sure that it will “lettuce” have a few good laughs together! This is going to be so much “pun!”

February 2nd: Volcano Bag
Day 2 of our Valentine’s Day puns and things are really “heating” up. I don’t mean to “int-erupt” your day, but you should know how much I “lava” this silliness, so much so, that I could just “burst!”

February 3rd: Leaf Appliqué
I know you are “falling” for some of these “unbe-leaf-ably” silly puns. It helps to create good “chemis-tree” between us when we can “photo-sympathize” with how lame they can become. I know it’s “over-ELM-ing,” but we can still laugh together. I hope it’s “OAK-kay” that I continue to post until I get “stumped.” Even then I won’t “leaf” you “hanging” as I “branch” out and try to be more punny!

February 4th: Mouse and Cheese Amigurumi
This may be my “cheesiest” pun yet. It’s “nacho” fault if these puns get so “stinky” you roll your eyes when I say life is “cheddar” when we’re together. When I am with you, I don’t feel “aged” or “bleu.” I do have to stay “sharp” to keep up these punny lines. Otherwise, it could look “swiss-picious” if I am laughing at these “prov-ALONE.” So, like I said, we are really “gouda” together so please, will you “brie” mine? It would be “mice” if your answer was “YES, cheese!”

February 5th: Mushroom Amigurumi
You may think that making up puns is no “truffle” at all. But, Holy “Shiitake,” it’s not easy!! I “moss” say that I have really taken a “lichen” to this. At least I have “morel” support from everyone. You give me “mush-room” to be creative, so I can “button” down and get these done! Once I get a good pun figured out, I feel like the “porto-bell-o” of the ball! I appreciate your encouragement because that’s what friends are “spore.”

February 6th: Avocado Amigurumi
“Bravo-cado” on sharing these puns everyone! I have laughed a lot and said, “You’ve “guac” to be kidding me,” several times! Some responses are “hard-core” and “avo-control!” There were a few “guac-ward” moments. I know, I tend be go too far that I can end up in the “pits” with these puns. It seems so wrong but feels so “ripe,” so keep it up, and “guac” my world with your creativity!

February 7th: Corn Amigurumi
I hope you are enjoying these “corny” puns! I’m “stalking” the Internet with “corn-viction” to help “plant” my mind with ideas this Valentine’s Day. Each pun is “butter” than the last. I come “ear” to find creativity. I search online for a “kernel” of truth and a pun that’s “a-peel-ing.” When I find it, I say “shucks” this is “sweet!” I’ve had to “weed” through a lot of “crop” to come up with all these “a-maize-ing” puns, but you’re worth it! After you finish “plowing” through the amount of “ridicul-husk”puns in this caption, I hope the rest of your day is filled with” uni-corns” and rainbows!

February 8th: Tomato Amigurumi
Trying to think of new and clever puns each day is making me feel a bit “plum” crazy. I tend to think “what’s “to-mato” with you, Nadia? You need to “ketchup” and figure these all out!” I’m trying to keep these upbeat and “juice” the cutest play on words, but sometimes it can become a bit “dicey.” I want to say thank you “cherry” much for “picking” up on my sense of humor and playing along with my “fruit-iness!”

February 9th: Bumble Bee Amigurumi
There has “bee-n” a lot of “buzz” going around about these puns. “Honey,” I’m trying to always “beehive” to “bee” sure my jokes don’t “sting.” I try to “bee” positive and “comb” through many ideas before they “stick.” Not all of my puns are “flower-y” or silly. I have “pollen” for a few lame ones. I agree that a couple were a bit “un-bee-lievable.” I always appreciate your feedback and “raw honey-sty.” Your encouragement makes me feel like a “Queen.” I’m trying to stay “hummm-ble, ” so I will stop “drone-ing” on and on, but before I go, I should say, I think you all are the “bees knees!” *insert cringy eyerolls here* HAHA!

Shop Red Heart, America's Favorite Yarn

February 10th: String of Hearts Cup Cozy
Rise and shine, it’s a “brew-tiful” day! Words can’t “espresso” how much you “bean” to me. You always stay “grounded” and work at “mocha” me happy. Even when I have a “latte” on my mind, you are there to give me your sweet “sugar.” Every day, you’re ready to face the daily “grind.” Even if each day feels like a “deja brew,” you never get “heated” and say “I don’t give a “frapp,”” or “What’s “Sumatra” with my life?” Instead, you’re always “perky” and “tea-riffic!” So, better “latte” than never, I want you to know that you’re more than an Average “Joe.” You’re just my “cup of tea.”

February 11th: Fish Amigurumi
We are “bass-ically” coming to the end of our Valentine’s puns. I “fish” we had more time because I’m having so much “fin!” I have a “boat-load” of material. I’m not being “koi” about it. With only a few days left, I’m not about to “swimmer” down. Instead, I’m over here, “kraken” myself up! I “sardine-ly” try to keep everyone laughing. You know I’m not doing this just for the “halibut.” These puns are an annual event. You may wonder, “”Water” you doing these for, Nadia?” My answer is, “These puns are a big “tank” you for being in my life!” I have always said, “You are my “ray” of sunshine.” You make me want to “Carp-e” Diem, and not “flounder” around anymore. There’s nothing “fishy” about this. My “sole” is truly in making up these puns!

February 12th: Scientist Amigurumi
I “periodically” get inspiration from everyday things for these crochet love notes. I get a “sine” that an idea might work, and then I start to “planet.” Some of these are “sodium” funny, I have slapped my “neon” a couple of occasions! The “gravity” to make these puns epic is “multiplied” by the fact that I’m running out of “time.” I’m trying to finish them at the “speed of light.” I have plenty of “energy” to keep these going for a couple more days! No “matter” what, through everything, you know my love for this is “constant,” but right now, I’m going to take a break and have a piece of “Pi.”

February 13th: Gnome Amigurumi
I “gnome” that this series is almost done. I hope these have brought some “magic” to your life. I’ve been “toad” that I make up some pretty good ones! I have been “trolling” through some keywords to pun this caption to make sure it’s “elfin'” hilarious. Some have been so funny, I hope no one wet their “plants” reading these! I’m being “fairy” careful to make sure they’re full of fun and “fantasy.” I have “pixie-d” some great projects to make some special Valentine’s ideas to help your love “grow.” This cute Gnome would be perfect for a “garden party” accent!

February 14th: Lemons to Lemonade Pillow
I have always had a “zest” for life, and “lime” so grateful to be able to do what I love. For the past 2 weeks, my creative “juices” have been going in high gear to bring you this series of puns leading up to Valentine’s Day. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!! At times, I may have blurred the “limes” between humorous and pushing too far. I’m sure some were a bit “sour” and others made you “peel” with laughter. Today’s pun is no exception. This pillow is “juice” the cutest way to end our series and allows me to “ex-press” how much all this means to me. I do this for YOU! I plan to “wedge” this under me to provide something to “curdle” up with once my procedure and biopsies are over. I’m so lucky to have my “main squeeze” with me during these tests! My life is made up of many “making lemonade” moments. Any way you “slice” it, was a perfect way to bring this series to a close. So, time to “pucker up” and get this procedure done! I will post the blog for this pillow as soon as I’m a bit more “fresh.” Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone! Sending you all my love!!

A great way to create a teaching moment and pint-sized responsibilities while having fun doing it! Socks, pajamas, t-shirts, towels, and undies, this monster will gobble them all up! There are a lot of ideas in this one project! Unleash your creativity and turn this project into a body pillow by stuffing it and sewing the mouth closed. Crochet Tutorial: The Panda Clutch Purse

Crochet Tutorial: The Panda Clutch Purse

I don’t have sisters but a group of best girlfriends who are my “sistys.” These ladies and I have made the panda our honorary group mascot. I’m not sure how that came about, but it has now become our thing. This Panda Clutch Purse design is dedicated to my sistys who are all over the globe from Comoros Africa, to Virginia, to Germany, to Wisconsin. I have been thinking about them and missing them so much lately. I am inspired everyday by these special ladies that are out changing the world. To my Panda, Panda, Panda crew, this one’s for you!

For those of you who are fans of pandas and all things related to pandas, this is a great project!
Did you know that pandas are a symbol of peace? In writing this blog, I looked up a few fun facts and came across this interesting blog if you want to learn more!

Check out this funny clip of me as a panda in a tree! Thanks to Snapchat! LOL

Earth Day: Using Plarn to Make a Market Bag

Earth Day: Using Plarn to Make a Market Bag

“Plarn is short for “plastic yarn.” Plarn is made by cutting plastic grocery bags into strips, which are then strung together into a single long strand. You can use plarn instead of regular yarn to crochet sturdy, reusable tote bags, purses, doormats, and more.” ~Plastic Bag Crafts

We all collect bags from various shopping centers. If you don’t have an option for paper bags at your local stores or if you don’t carry-in your personal market bags, you end up stock-piling a collection of plastic bags that can one day end up in our landfills. BOOOO!! We don’t want that!!! So, what do we do with this accumulation? Well, I’ve got a solution! I did an experiment to make my own reusable market bag recycling about 35 plastic bags.

Once you determine what you plan to make, and you have accumulated a significant amount of plastic, the biggest “chore” of this entire project is cutting the strips to make the plarn. In this case, I use the term “chore” lightly. This literally takes little to no time, but I find it to be the one thing most people complain about.

I followed the instructions in this link to make my plarn. This information is very helpful in helping you create the amount of plarn needed for your project!

Once my plarn was cut, I rolled each bag up into a ball of plarn! I used a variety of Target bags and some gray grocery bags. I used a J-6.00mm crochet hook and a single crochet method to make this bag.

These are very easy to make and end up being very durable! There are various tutorials online to show you how to make your own! Then, you’re all set to use your new bag the next time you go to the market! I gave this one to my sister-in-law and she uses it ever summer at the farmers market! Use this idea on a smaller scale to make your own lunch bag or for other creative ideas using plarn! Enjoy!!

Have you tried this technique before? Share what you’ve made with plarn in the comments section!!

Crochet Tutorial: Poppin’ Petals Purse

Crochet Tutorial: Poppin’ Petals Purse

A couple of my favorite vices are handbags and shoes. I love a good bag! A nice tote that I can carry around with style! I can’t begin to tell you how many things I carry around in my purse! With that in mind, I decided to create a handbag with space and functionality in mind. Using a bit of creative ingenuity, I incorporated some thrifted macrame hoops and some old cable wire to help make this beautiful design and give it a unique shape.

For my prototype, I created it using Red Heart Yarn that I happened to pick up on a sale, but my recommendation would be to use a COTTON YARN or a cotton blend yarn. It’s not wrong to use any kind of yarn, you can make this any way you like, but for sturdiness and durability, a cotton yarn may work better in this project.

PoppinPetals2

I added some fun embellishments, floral details on each end of the purse sides, a cute little tassel, as well as a wooden button for closure.

Feel free to modify this to your liking with your own personal touches. Keep in mind, the size of this bag can be changed, and I have all that information in the Notes section below.

This would make an amazing yarn bag! In fact, this bag perfectly accommodates a One Pound skein of yarn with ease (Tested and Approved!).

A smaller version of this bag would be a cute makeup or accessory bag! Have fun with your creativity!! Share your photos when you’re finished on the Facebook page here!

Materials:

-Approximately 600 yards of yarn. (You can use any cotton or polyester yarn) I used Red Heart Super Saver Accents in Coral
-Wooden Button, find the shop I bought mine at here.
G/6-4.25 Crochet Hook
Stitch Markers (I used extra strands of yarn to mark my stitches)
-Yarn Needle
Scissors
Cord, Rope, or Wire (optional)
2 Macrame Rings (optional)

NOTES:
-This pattern is made with separate pieces and is seamed with crochet and sewing
-The video tutorial demonstrates a purse that is approximately 12 inches, but if you do more chains you can make this bigger. The video tutorial shares how to make this wider.
-To make this longer, just repeat rows 2-5 as many times as you want for the body of the purse.
-To make side rings with the flowers bigger, follow the math for the increases to make it bigger. If you need it to be smaller, stop increasing at any point.
-This took me about 2 days to make, but you could make this in one day if you work on it constantly.
-You can use any type of cotton or cotton blend yarn to achieve this style.

bring around to beginning and sc in 1st ch and in each ch around. Work in continuous spiral.
Rnd 2-36 (or however long you want to make it): Sc in each st around.
Fasten off when your handle is long enough.

Sew all your pieces together (See video tutorial for visual instructions)
When sewing the bottom seam, you can add a cord to keep your piece straight so it doesn’t get wonky.
I think watching the video for all the sewing will help greatly in creating your piece.

Tassel:
Watch video tutorial or add any embellishment you like to attach to the handle for a pretty finish

Button:
Add button to center front, crochet loop by attaching yarn to back of purse, chain 10, sl st to the next st, and fasten off. (See video tutorial for visual instructions)

Weave in all ends.

Enjoy!

Crochet Tutorial: No-Sew Market Bag with Crocheted Edge

The internet is flooded with ways to “go green” and help the environment. Whenever there is a way to help our great planet, I am a big fan of doing what I can! I have run across many how-to videos on ways to convert a t-shirt into a tote bag.

As a huge advocate for the four R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Re-purpose I will show step by step in this photo blog with an accompanying video, a detailed way on how you can do all four in one great project and add in a bit of crochet magic to make this project even more amazing!! We will be Recycling  an old t-shirt and Re-purposing it into a market bag, thus Reducing the amount of plastic bags that go into the landfills. ANDDD, you can Reuse it over and over! Help the environment and look stylish while doing it! It’s a win/win!

Crochet Tutorial: Trick-or-Treat Bag

This is a very easily adaptable pattern that can be transformed into many items besides the trick or treat bag that I originally am making this bag for. It can be made into a tote bag, a handbag, purse, laptop case, iPad case. You can add a drawstring by weaving it through the top of this bag and omitting the handles. There are SO many ideas in one pattern!

Another fun idea with this pattern is to use the base bag and change up the embellishments and colors to make all kinds of neat Halloween fun trick-or-treat bags that will stand out and last for years to come!

Crochet Tutorial: Desert Sunset Tote Bag

Summer is here and I needed a bag to take with me to the farmers market to hold all my goodies! I stumbled upon this lovely bag designed by Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream This bag can be used in so many different ways! Take it to the beach, use it as a purse, use it as a book bag if you’re a student, use it as a project bag and take it wherever you go to continue your crochet projects!

I used different colors than the pattern calls for, so you can use my color choices, you could stick to the original written pattern color scheme, or you can make up your own color scheme! Make it one solid color if you’d like! The creativity possibilities are endless!
